Thilan Samaraweera
Most underrated batsman in world cricket? Averages 50 in test cricket in 49 matches with 8 hundreds. And yet he's barely ever mentioned as a world class batsman.

Re: Thilan Samaraweera
He scored a very good hundred in the West Indies, but I think the drawn out nature of his Test career has allowed him to slip under the radar unnoticed. I was amazed when I saw he had played nigh on 50 Tests as I only noticed him for the first time in watching the aforesaid innings vs the Windies.

His Stats aren't that bad, it does appear that against half decent sides he does fail. SG where did you get those Averages from?

"What are the chances that he'll now be in world's top-10 bats?"
It will take more than this.
The Ranking points take into account strength of opposition. Pakistan have no bowlers in the top 10, and only two bowlers in the top 50. TS will get a bump but not enough to get him into the top 10 batsmen.

Re: Thilan Samaraweera
He was actually averaging something like 88 after 10 Tests or so, but then tailed off when confronted with decent bowlers. Now he's had a couple of roads to bat on. Still, you still have to makes the runs. But cheaping, yes.JGK wrote:I was about to post a message about him in the match thread except mine was along the lines of his 50 average cheaping test cricket.

Samaraweera averaged 180.00 after 3 Tests, 140.66 after 6 Tests, 87.16 after 9 Tests and then tailed off to a low of 40.80 after 40 Tests. But after consecutive good series against WI, Ind, BD and Pak has climbed back over 50.

He actually made an excellent backs to the wall century against the Windies about a year ago. He needs to make runs away from the Sub Continent to be considered truly world class.

hmm so he is a bit like the kind of chick who thinks that you are good looking and cool but a few weeks later realizes that you are a bit of loser but then changes her mind again and thinks that you are a cool HOT loser?skully wrote:Samaraweera averaged 180.00 after 3 Tests, 140.66 after 6 Tests, 87.16 after 9 Tests and then tailed off to a low of 40.80 after 40 Tests.
