Guyana XI
Now this is a tough one.
There is no end of talented batsmen of Subcontinental origin (all those families of indentured servants and small-scale merchants) who tend to be described as "dapper and pugnacious", with sleeves buttoned at the wrist, good at the sweep and cut and elegantly aggressive strokes generally.
e.g.
Rohan Kanhai
Alvin Kallicharan
RR Sarwan
Shv Chanderpaul
(at a lower level, such as Mahendra Nagamootoo ..)
By the same token, I can't think of many openers or indeed bowlers of any sort. I can think of Basil Butcher, cool Carl Hooper, languidly powerful Clive Lloyd, intensely long-limbed Roger Harper, Colin Croft and Lance Gibbs. (And I had to check Harper.) Then I am struggling.
And a wicketkeeper? Vishal Nagamootoo? Ask Kanhai to take the gloves?
Joe Solomon turns out to have been Guyanese, s he might be in on the basis of the tied test.
Ah! Roy Fredericks!
Chattergoon, Ramdass ...?? Hmmm.
So here goes>
1. Roy Fredericks
2. Shiv Chanderpaul (for want of another opener)
3. Rohan Kanhai +
4. RR Sarwan or Alvin Kallicharan
5, Clive Lloyd *
6. Basil Butcher
7. Carl Hooper
8. Joe Solomon
9. Colin Croft
10. Reon King? or Colin Stuart??
11. Lance Gibbs
12. Roger Harper
It's not what you'd call a balanced side. Lots and lots of P/T and fill-in bowlers.
