Aus t20 'WC' squad named
No imagination whatsoever shown by the NSP.
I've run a few of the key phrases throught the Hilditch to Real World Speak translator...
if it plays to its potential, has the ability to win the tournament becomes we've picked some blokes who have performed well once in the past year, and on that, reckon they will now be able to put together a string of performaces so we can bring the trophy home.
Shane Watson has returned to the one-day side and performed extra well with the bat in the series in the UAE. He’ll return to bowling in Thursday’s T20 game there and adds strength and versatility to the side becomes at some stage we have to take a chance on this bloke, because we've got a bunch of memorabilia for the tournament with his face plastered across the front of it. Of course we know he's overdue to break down again, because he's managed five successive matches without injuring himself. If his body goes again, then we might be f*cked.
At his best Andrew Symonds is one of the best T20 players in the world. In limited opportunities in the UAE he showed, during game two, his ability to win games for Australia. becomes Shit I hope nobody asks serious questions about Roy. We know he's done bugger-all in the past year, but I'm happy to highlight one good performance from him amid a sea of dross, after all, we've picked a few others on similar so-called form.
Brett Lee is progressing well and will return to international cricket in Thursday’s T20 game against Pakistan. We expect it will take him a few games to regain his rhythm after the extended break but the medical and coaching staff are very confident Brett will be back to his best for this tournament. becomes [b] It's exactly the same scenario as for Watto, but we're kinda hoping he does injure himself. If we keep picking him ahead of more deserving players for more meaningful matches, someone will evetually get the shits. A ruptured achilles in this thing will sideline him foor months and rule him out for the Ashes, so we can play some decent bowlers.
David Hussey is an important part of our plans and displayed his credentials in the first international T20 against South Africa in South Africa recently. becomes We really feel shithouse about how we've treated this bloke. And given that his brother's form has been terrible for months, the least we can do is put Dave in the side to make sure someone does worse than Mike.
David Warner is an example of a player added for his specific skills in T20 cricket and has the ability to give us an explosive start at the top of the order becomes David Warner is an example of a player added for his specific skills in Sydney grade cricket and one t20i before any international opposition had seen him and had the chance to work him out. He has the ability to give us an explosive start at the top of the order provided that the VCRs of the opposition coaches have been out of order since the Yarpies showed him up as not very good.
The 15-player Australia men’s squad for the ICC World Twenty20 is:
State Age
Ricky Ponting (c) TAS 34
Michael Clarke (vc) NSW 28
Nathan Bracken NSW 31
Brad Haddin NSW 31
Nathan Hauritz NSW 27
Ben Hilfenhaus TAS 26
James Hopes QLD 30
David Hussey VIC 31
Mike Hussey WA 33
Mitchell Johnson WA 27
Brett Lee NSW 32
Peter Siddle VIC 24
Andrew Symonds QLD 33
David Warner NSW 22
Shane Watson QLD 27
Commenting on the squad, National Selection Panel Chairman Andrew Hilditch said: “We believe we’ve got a strong squad here that, if it plays to its potential, has the ability to win the tournament.
“Building up to this selection, Shane Watson has returned to the one-day side and performed extra well with the bat in the series in the UAE. He’ll return to bowling in Thursday’s T20 game there and adds strength and versatility to the side.
“At his best Andrew Symonds is one of the best T20 players in the world. In limited opportunities in the UAE he showed, during game two, his ability to win games for Australia. He also adds versatility to our squad.
“Nathan Hauritz is the specialist spinner in the side. Nathan has made great progress in limited overs cricket to become a regular member of the side during series’ in South Africa and the UAE. Spin is having a significant impact on T20 cricket worldwide and Nathan is well placed to play a significant role in this tournament.
“Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle have both had their workloads managed in advance of upcoming international cricket. They are both very important members of the Australian bowling group and their return will add significant strength to the side.
“Brett Lee is progressing well and will return to international cricket in Thursday’s T20 game against Pakistan. We expect it will take him a few games to regain his rhythm after the extended break but the medical and coaching staff are very confident Brett will be back to his best for this tournament.
“We’ve picked a strong batting group with a mix of stroke players and players capable of being very destructive. David Hussey is an important part of our plans and displayed his credentials in the first international T20 against South Africa in South Africa recently. His fielding is sharp and he gives us good overs in T20 cricket.
“David Warner is an example of a player added for his specific skills in T20 cricket and has the ability to give us an explosive start at the top of the order.”

Hopefully we come last in our pool. If ever there was a chance to show off some of the up and coming talent in the game, this was it.
And FFS, no Hughes?

I would much prefer that he stay in England getting ready for the Ashes thanks to the generosity of some Pommy county. Who gives a rats @rse about some pissant T20 tourney?

the getting ready for the Ashes is the pertinant part.

Re: Aus t20 'WC' squad named
Sure, I'd rather the Ashes was a 6-Test series, but that ain't gonna happen, so it's the closest thing to cricket that'lll be on offer. At least its blokes playing for their country, not some faceless team owner.G.Wood wrote:the getting ready for the Ashes is the pertinant part.

I might watch a couple of the matches, but I'm guessing most of them will be on at around 3 in the morning Wagga time, so unlikely.

I guess we'll go as well in this JAMITT torment as we have in all others. So smashed, we will be.
Bring on the Ashes.

hopefully bung will fail and punter, siddle , midge and the kid will get niggles and be rested.
fleas will get a call up and be named interim captain until there is a hullaballoo between haddin, roy and fleas with the 3 being knocked out of the ashes because of injury/disgrace or both

The same age as Mike Hussey, Symonds and Punter and arguably has the best recent form in this format and over time has proven to be a better player in this format. White's caper is T20 if he's allowed to have a decent number of overs in order to express his free hitting.
What has Symonds done of late to deserve a gig?
