So who'll be at the non-striker's end?

They could be on both ends now that we have two of them.

The ICC needs to step in firmly now. This has happened too often. Will they?
Will they bollocks.

The Test Series will go ahead.
WI shouldn't pass down an easy test victory.

Re: Windies go on strike
The WICB treats the players with no respect whatsoever and thus the players have lost all their faith in the governing body.
I have no problem with the boycotting of ICC/WICB events that let everyone know all is not well, but to boycott a test match is outrageous when all the ICC officials, the opposition and hundreds of Bangladeshi fans are already in St Vincent.
The WIPA has become far too trigger happy. When you combine that with the worst cricket board in international cricket you are headed for trouble.

WICB scrambling together a Scab/replacement XI:
Cozier says 3 players who he knows have been invited are:
Tino 'mind the windows' Best
Floyd 'the good stuff' Reifer
Kraigg Brathwaite - 16 year old opening batsman with 2 FC games under his belt. He is a record breaking junior batsman, but is he test ready? I severely doubt it!

Maybe! Who knows? Tony Cozier was a wicket keeper back in the day, maybe he can be an experienced head amidst all the unknown youngsters.......

Re: Windies go on strike
hope they pay their fast bowlers
who cares about batsmen, they have an easy job anyways
I suggest 75% of the money should go to fast bowlers and by fast bowlers i mean FAST bowlers not lineandlength Bakers.

Re: Windies go on strike
Was listening to local news discussion on this on the radio today. The WIPA may have become a bit arsy and militant, but I have to say they have been forced down this route IMHO.
It seems the issue ATM is the WICB are insisting on retrospectively changing the player's current contracts along with retrospective alterations of monies due (much of which has not been paid for months.)
The WICB have decided that the contracts should allow for performance related pay...not necessarily a bad thing, but they essentially want to rip up the existing contracts and tell the players "this is what we should have got you to sign 2 years ago or whatever, so sign it now and it will act retrospectively"
Well, if the WICB did not draft the contracts properly in the first place, that is their problem. They have to let the existing contracts run and then replace them with the new performance related ones.
The pundits were stating the the current WICB head, Julian Hunte will go down as THE WORST AND MOST INCOMPETENT WICB Head EVER, and that is quite some achievement.
They were saying that many of these problems should have been anticipated from Hunte's attitude before he was appointed.
It is all very sad, but unfortunately that is how things work down here.
It is significant that WIPA has taken the WICB to arbitration 3 or 4 times and won on EVERY occassion!

Re: Windies go on strike
Not just the WICB, the WIPA needs to be reprimanded too.
Anyway the WICB is refusing to name the team until just before the toss because the WIPA have been making phonecalls trying to intimidate said players into refusing their call ups.
But the scab/replacement xi is looking like this as of now:
Dale Richards
Kraigg Braithwaite
Travis Dowlin
Floyd Reifer (c)
Andre Creary
Chadwick Walton (wk) - only rumored at the moment
David Bernard Jr
Darren Sammy - only rumored
Tino Best - extreme pace PP.... pity about the lack of brainpower
Kevin McLean
Nikitta Miller
It is disgusting that a 16 year old like Braithwaite has been dragged into this. He was preparing for an Under 19 competition in Jamaica and has been receiving phone calls from both sides trying to convince him to play/not to play. He is 16 years old FFS! Both parties should be ashamed of themselves.

Re: Windies go on strike
And just to add, what the pundits were saying was that they believe the WICB is trying to break the WIPA and is using this issue to do so.
Whether they will succeed is another matter as they seem to be ignoring contract law with impunity.
The WICB have chosen to delay the meeting with the WIPA until the first game is due to be played, where a 3rd rate Uni team will be fielded as the WI Team.

Re: Windies go on strike
Well WIPA may be being antagonistic, but TBH given how the WICB have behaved towards the players for many many years, I cannot see what alternative they have available to them.
As is the culture down here, the Boss(es) behave as they wish, which is usually to the detriment of their charges and responsibilities.
They behave so often purely as a wanton exercise of power for its own sake regardless of the detrimental effect on the area they are meant to be managing.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face in short.

Yep there is no doubt at all that the WICB are taking the players for granted and needed to be taken to task. But the WIPA are almost as bad. They didn't strike during the India series when these same issues were raised. I wonder why? IPl money for the big 3? Don't want to piss off the BCCI?
They also wait until just before a test series where all the officials and supporters have bought tickets and made travel arrangements before announcing this strike. Do they want their employers to be fined $1 million? If you ask me Ramnarine and Hunte both have to go. Hunte is laughably incompetent and incredibly stuck up, Ramnarine is an angry little man with the support of the unnecessarily militant Trini unionist Abdullah. There are two sides to every negotiation and neither side is working.

Re: Windies go on strike
Ok I can 100% confirm some of the players that are in St Vincent training as we speak. Some of the names not mentioned but likely to arrive are the Jamaicans Creary, Bernard and Miller and the Bajan youth Braithwaite but the following players will be playing (or in the squad) tomorrow:
Darren Sammy, Nelon Pascal, Kemar Roach, Floyd Reifer, Tino Best, Travis Dowlin, Chadwick Walton, Dale Richards, Ryan Austin, Omar Phillips, Kevin McLean.
So it looks likely that Bangladesh will be facing a fast but wayward bowling attack and an extremely poor batting lineup. Lets hope Ryan Austin has an excellent test and kicks Suliemann Benn off the team. At least then something positive would come out of this mess......
