That never would've washed amongst the PC BS artists who organised Syd2000. I mean why would you want someone who won the same event at three successive games to do the iconic job of the games when you could have a nasally-voiced, whiney, attention-seeking prima donna who at that stage hadn't done anything of note at the Olympics, and who faded from view fairly rapidly afterwards?

To be fair Zat and I think you know I don't drop names willy nilly. I once cooked for Cath on a beach and asked her about the whole 2000 Olympics thing.

She was distraught at what she was put through. "Get Shirly, Betty or Raelene to light the bloody thing. I'm carrying two nations on my back and I don't need this shit", was what she told the OOC. Dawn settled her down and she did alright but she admitted she shouldn't have been chosen to light the flame.

qmy, I wasn't criticising Cathy Freeman (well, not in the main, I'm not a huge fan and was probably one of the few people working at Syd2000 who didn't stop their job for her gold in the 400m) I was taking a shot at the PC BS artists who made the decision.

Whilst I'm on a roll I'll drop another name. When Bronnie was Minister for Defence Science and Personnel she once gave me a lift in her Comcar from the function I was speaking at to my hotel.

I was bitching about Canberra and asked her how she managed to live in the fishbowl. "Lots of guilt free sex". I've gotta admit I felt more kindly towards her after that. Still hated the bitch but she at least proved she was human, something I had doubted for a while.

The driver ran a red light when she said it and almost missed the turn-off to the Lakeside. I thought for a while I was going to have to spend the night at a Best Western in Tuggerenong.
