Botham can be a bit of a nob, but I'll wait for Chappell to do something remotely comparable to what Botham has for leukemia before listening to his views.
One other thing though, who remembers, word for word, an incident that happened 30 years ago?

Obviously Chappelli wrote it down for his book.

Thye have both been on about that incident for years . . . no doubt they both have their stories down pat.

Chappelli has done some positive things in Australia as far as the refugee situation is concerned. With the children overboard controversy etc, he's been a big campaigner against the Howard governments policies towards refugees being kept like animals in detention centres in the outback, with their claims often taking years to be processed.
They're both head strong, and much too macho and proud to sit down and sort things out.

?
Chappell was the key driving force to the professionalisation of the sport for the players who these days can be set up for life after a relatively modest international career.

Botham quoted it in his original autibiography which some thieving b@stard has stolen from me.

I suspect that whatever the thruth is the actual incident contained a good deal less witty repartee than both sides suggest.

The truth is that if they did have a fight, then Beefy would have kicked Chappelli's arse.

The truth may well be that it was an alcohol-fuelled handbag encounter - and neither party has a clear memory of it.

Isn't it simply that Botham is a tool and Chappelli is a C*N*U*T?Basil wrote:The truth may well be that it was an alcohol-fuelled handbag encounter - and neither party has a clear memory of it.

If Botham gave three official warnings I'll eat my hat.One warning and Ian would have left.
Truth is he probably king hit Chappell or tried to as apparently he missed and Chappell sprawled over the players then headed for the door.

It really is amazing that these two clowns weren't best buddies.
Surely the only happy way out of this is a fight to the death where we shoot the winner.

Re: The Botham/Chappell spat continues
You would think that a couple of dads/grandads in the sixties or seventies or whatever would be able to get over something that happened that far ago and display some maturity. Quite disgraceful, talk about setting an example for the younsgters !

Re: The Botham/Chappell spat continues
In the 1998-99 Ashes series they were on the same commentary team, but they never commentated on air together, and apparently not a word was spoken between the two the whole summer, despite the fact that they were in the same room together pretty much every second day.
