Re: Oh FFS!!!!!!!
No quotes from Rudolph there, just the Yorkie chief executive, no doubt - after the stink his initial signing kicked up - paying lip-service to the South African's 'commitment' to England and his 'genuine' Kolpak status as someone who has turned his back on international cricket.
As I said at the time, as soon as South Africa pick him again, he'll be off like a shot. It's a relationship of convenience.
That said, England could use a middle-order lefty...

Jacques Rudolph wants to play for England
Says so here.
He's a bit pants though, wouldn't get into the current England squad.

It won't happen. Anyway, if he was that special, he would not have left S.A.

Merged into this topic. I should say that otherwise it makes you look a bit slow on the uptake, wading in halfway through the topic to announce what was already the topic under discussion.

Is it me, or has the number of Ian Bell fans just rocketed?

In other news, Derbyshire signed Jayawardene a few days ago. You see, at the top clubs like Derbyshire, we only sign gentleman cricketers.

Butcher hasn't retired yet has he!?
To be honest I find reports like this kind of annoying, I don't think this kind of stuff should be happening. Whether he lives in England for the next 1000 years I don't think it's quite right that he should play for them.

Re: Oh FFS!!!!!!!
"When he signed his first contract with us he said he had no intentions of signing a contract to play for South Africa again."
Thats strange. I could have sworn that he issued a statement when he left South Africa talking about "Playing for Yorkshire for a couple of seasons before reassesing my future and hopefully returning to be in the frame for the South African squad."
Cricket SA also sent him best wishes as he headed off to England, saying that "We still see Jacques as part of the Proteas future in years to come, and we wish him all the best as he goes to England to work on his game."
I doubt they would have been so kind if they'd know he had absolutely no intention of returning to South Africa. I guess it shows how worrying the situation is over there is a player like Rudolph, who was right on the fringe of the Test side, feels that playing full time for Yorkshire is a better career move.

So not only are they crap at spotting talent, they're also crap at hanging on to talent. Doesnt really bode well. Vaughn Van Jaarsveld is another guy- 22 year old left handed batsman, tons of talent, was earmarked as a future Protea, but he's also left South Africa to try his luck in England.
Seems to be 50-50 at the moment as to whether fringe white players decide to stay in South Africa or try their luck in England.

With more than a million Saffies in London alone, South Africans may feel more at home in the UK than in their own country...

Van Jaarsveld is a FTB, pure and simple.
