Would have liked a sixth Test in there somewhere.
The 7 match ODI series v England on top of 2 ODIs following 5 Tests means 14 matches between the sides.

Too much ODI cricket.
Too much cricket we'll forget within a few days (until it comes up on the Trivia thread).
The Ashes is the only real thing to look forward to in that schedule.

Re: 2010-11 Australian cricket schedule
SCG Test starts on Monday January 3rd. Given the extreme scabbiness of the NSW govt, there's a possibility that a replacement public holiday due to NYD being a Saturday WON'T be declared in the state. This would mean the Test is played on a Monday-Friday basis with no public holidays. Marketing genius.
Edit: In fact, as things stand, that is correct.

Always found it interesting that Australia stick to the same grounds in the same order for the Ashes for a few years now. In 86/7 I think Perth/Adelaide was the other way around.

It is scheduled in a counter clockwise direction so the barmy army and our captain don't get lost

Test cricket finishes too early in the Aus summer. Jamodi's are played through the majority of the school holidays. Hardly a great way to convince youngsters that test cricket is still the number 1 form of the game.

Re: 2010-11 Australian cricket schedule
Anyone notice what's missing from the schedule for next summer?
- Spoiler:
- It seems the Chappell/Hadlee trophy has been demoted from 'annual return series' status.

Is it too much to hope for that it's been abandoned as far as being an annual contest?

Sage. It'd be a timely reminder for teh Ashes tickets going on sale too.
Which makes me wonder... Should we organise another forum get-together during the Ashes?

Cric Tas lobbied for a sixth test at Bellerive but were told to get farked. All we got was a crappy Aus 'A' game in November that will prolly get washed out.
Re: 2010-11 Australian cricket schedule
There is an ODI against SL in Melbourne in early November with CA hoping to cash in on the success of the spring carnival. There might be a few people needing to be thrown out as they recover from the cup and warm up for the Oaks for the following day.

Yes, although the World Cup following straight afterwards does throw a spanner in the works.
Despite that they still could have had the Ashes finishing a week or so later had they shown some restraint and scheduled a 5 match one-day series (not a gluttonous 7-match affair). England could even have played an extra tour match had they done that.
I think the best schedule we had was back in the days when the World Series was played between the tests throughout the summer. Obviously that's not feasible now with test and one-day teams being so different, but it did make the season flow well.
As for starting the Sydney test on a Monday (which may or may not be a public holiday) - what a joke! Cricket Australia probably think they can schedule an Ashes match at any old time and it will still sell out every day, but they shouldn't take the public for granted.

Re: 2010-11 Australian cricket schedule
This clash with the World Cup reminds me that 2014/15 is going to be a nightmare for scheduling with the tournament being played down under.
The Ashes cycle is due be shifted back one year, but it won't take effect until 2016.
We got around this last time (in 1991/2) by playing the World Cup a year later. Is there anything stopping Australia and New Zealand requesting they host the 2015 World Cup in November and December of that year? After all, the first World Cup outside of England was played in November, not Feberuary/March.
