Indian team for the second test
Assuming Laxman is fit but Dravid isn't, i'd go with-
Gambhir
Sehwag
Laxman
Tendulkar
Vijay
Badrinath
Dhoni+
Mishra
Zaheer
Ojha
Mithun
Harbhajan- Rubbish.
Ishant- Has fallen back substantially.
Badrinath didn't look fantastic, but he at least showed a bit of grit. Vijay always looks classy, but it's time he turned these promising starts into something more substantial.

Our openers would've to fire. We look a bit lost without their contribution at the top.
Then Bhajji and Ishant must be kept away from the team for atleast 1 year. For Bhajji 2 year ban from Indian team would be even better.

I'd even consider Ravindra Jadeja for Badrinath. Can bat at number six and provides a very decent 3rd spinner option.

i am not happy with this ploy of just two pacers unless its a rank turner. which may well be the case

Re: Indian team for the second test
well if they should play 3 pacemen then Jadeja would be even more of a sensible pick.

Re: Indian team for the second test
not needed i think. sehwag can do the second spinners role quite well. we really need to strengthen the batting, especially if vvs is not fit. jadeja is not a test match batsman, not a test match no. 6 for sure. and neither is dhoni

Yeah, you need three fast bowlers IMO.
Or prepare a track like the last Test last time SA were in India?
Re: Indian team for the second test
i think that will be the case. india might as well risk it all. a 2-0 loss is not much worse than 1-0, but 1-1 is definitely much, much better than 1-0

It seems the only way to maintain the #1 ranking. There's not much likelihood you'll be able to outgun their pack attack.
Re: Indian team for the second test
no way. not with steyn in there. ishant and harbhajan need to go nonetheless
maybe we can put a dodgy prawn in somewhere. in both team hotels

Re: Indian team for the second test
The squad:
MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Murali Vijay, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, S Badrinath, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Dinesh Kartik, Suresh Raina.
Out go Tyagi , Mithun and Saha. And Rohit Sharma

Another comedy show on round? Eden track traditionally favours fast bowlers willing to bend their backs. Steyn will get another chance to stain further up the India batters reputation. Also it should be fun watching Raina against Steyn.....

Why was Saha picked over Karthick, Panday or Pujara?

Re: Indian team for the second test
Makes complete sense to me, drop three youngsters who had nothing to do with the debacle (only one of them played), protect the fat cats and include Raina with his proven track record against short pitched bowling for the second test.
Don't know why they picked Saha in the first place and even more puzzled on why he played ahead of other batsmen. He managed 36 runs ,same as M.Vijay yet gets dropped after one test.
Congratulations SA on your series win.
Srikanth / Selectors and Dhoni - You are full of it.

is this a belated BCCI recognition that his ongoing selection is at odds with the spirit of the game and an embarassment to the good name of Indian cricket

Re: Indian team for the second test
Saha was picked as cover for Dhoni who had a sore back
They picked two extra seamers in the squad and no extra batsmen
VVS was injured and they called up Rohit Sharma as replacement ...who injured his ankle in the warm up and having no other batsmen in the squad they were forced to play Saha as a batsman
There's a cricinfo article 'Perfect Selection Storm' about it if you can be bothered to look

Sreesanth has to play
Would also like VVS in the lineup other than that who cares.

If Saha was good enough to be Dhoni's replacement in one test why is Karthik back given that Saha did not keep anyway?embee wrote:Saha was picked as cover for Dhoni who had a sore back

- Question not directed at you embee more at the BCCI's mysterious ways.
Sharma ankle injury just before the toss - That is fair enough.

Re: Indian team for the second test
Are there any decent batsmen from Nagpur area they could have called in?
The only similar thing I can think of in Oz was when Taypodge forgot how to put his pants on and they called up Luke Pomersbach who was a spectator to replace him in a T20 against the Snoozies
