Boys Toys
Had my hot laps in a Konica Series V8 Supercar at Eastern Creek this morning. What a farkin blast.
Talk about info overload. The co-pilot never shut up (brake here, turn harder there, both hands on the wheel etc) but was in my ear (miked up helmets) to go quicker and quicker. Missed a gear a coupla times but what a rush.
The sooks had the speedo and rev counter disconnected so no idea how fast it was. Still 200 kph or so down the straight does funny things to a man's testosterone levels.
The joint was packed. It was tattoed bogan westies as far as the eye could see. Got in early and was 2nd off the grid. Would've loved to have done another 15 laps. Was just getting the hang of it after 5.

Yeah but the farker didn't work. They've gone to USB sticks and its some weird VBox clip. Called 'em and they said they'd had several complaints and would transfer file to a DVD if I mailed the USB back. Unfortch won't get it back until after Easter.
Queues where too long to check that it worked this morning.

Look on the bright side. Without the video you can lie your arse off about how you made Brocky look like a Sunday driver.

Only 5 laps qmy, but it were pretty hard work, but awesome fun. Can't imagine doing it for 160 laps but!! Much kudos to the pros.Bradman wrote:Look on the bright side. Without the video you can lie your arse off about how you made Brocky look like a Sunday driver.

Sounds awesome. I once did a drive day at Oran Park where we had Lotus Elise's and that was enought to scare the crap out of me.

Hehehe. Even if I did, you couldn't hear my blubbering over the massive throaty growl of the 5 L V8 engine.Zat wrote:Zat wrote:So we can look forward to seeing it on youtube after Easter? Why? As a result of signing up for the one I've just done, I'm being spammed with a $500 6 lap deal for Mt Panorama. Now that would be ace.

Do you drive or do you just get taken around? Presumably it is when the track is in race set up. Sounds freaking awesome.

Same deal as today - you drive with an instructor/co-pilot. But Mt Panorama would be much better because it's much longer and not nearly the high percentage of turns as Eastern Creek (which was all 3rd and 4th gear cornering except for the long main straight).JGK wrote:Mate, it was grouse.

Well, she came with me (it was the best birthday present she's ever given me!!) and did say that I was pretty amped up after the laps, but no chance of any "outlet" shall we say. sk.simkat wrote:Gees I thought I was good hurtling along the highway at 125.

Have you ever driven across the top of the Bathurst track - through Skyline, the Esses and the Dipper? Even at 60kmh in my 3 litre Subaru it scared the sh1t out of me so in a hot lap in a Supercar you might be wishing you were back in nice, safe Eastern Creek.

Re: Boys Toys
I have, JGK. As Woody alludes, he, a colleague and myself went on a field trip to Bathurst in a sh!tty gutless auto Nissan Pulsar and did a few laps. The Pulsar struggled to get up through The Cutting (surprised how steep it was) and then going back down the mountain was pretty hairy.
It was a bugger cos the cops were buzzing around so we didn't get much of a chance to get the full value out of the Pulsar's 1.5 L engine!!!!
I would've loved to have done a few laps in my own 3 L Spec-B Subi (had it for the 1st 18 months of the current job), but didn't get the chance.

Oh, that's right I remember you saying you got this for your birthday. I bet Mrs S was pleased you enjoyed it so much!
In Perth, my husband used to come home from his taekwondo/fitness classes pretty amped (yes, it doesn't take much ). He asked me to make a music CD for the class so after all the rocky stuff, I tagged on Bad Compay's Ready For Love at the end and told him there was a message for him in the warm down song. Of course, I was only teasing
Anyway, glad you had such a great time

Re: Boys Toys
Was lucky enough to be taken on a hot lap by Jim Richards once.skully wrote:I'm being spammed with a $500 6 lap deal for Mt Panorama. Now that would be ace.
Some highlights...
- Being within inches of the wall on the way up
- Skyline. Not entirely sure why they call it that when you're going that fast, there's no time to savour the view. In fact a lengthy bit of the track up there is effectively blind when you're going quick.
- The dipper. Proof positive that in some circumstances you can sit on top of your own head.
- Conrod Straight. Saw the speedo hit 230, then decided to look at the rapidly approaching Chase. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Not going to give you the satisfaction then.skully wrote:Awaits Zog's obvious response.

I'd have ultimate faith if I was in the passenger seat with a V8 superstar, and just sit back and enjoy the hair-raising ride. Yee-haaa, indeed.
