"Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka's captain, has questioned the way the ICC Test rankings work. He was responding to a query whether the players take seriously a system that has India at No. 1 despite not having won a series in Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka since 1993, and whether that system needs a change.

"You should have asked that question of Haroon [Lorgat, ICC's CEO], who was here a while ago…" Sangakkara said. "If rankings can't be understood by the public, the players, or the administrators, what's the use of having rankings? If you want rankings, they should count towards playing a Test championship.

"Rankings need to be fairly done. A fair FTP is the first step towards having proper rankings. Once every two years each side should play each other at least once, home or away. That's how you get a fair deal when it comes to Test cricket."

But how does the ICC create a fair FTP that still allows them to lube up and take it from whoever's splashing the cash?

the bigger teams - england, australia and now india are not too interested in series with the smaller teams, which is a shame. lanka almost went a decade without a series in aus and it took 18 years for england to give them a test series of more than one match. india is yet to host the bangles

Sanga the almighty sook. Always finds a reason to sook. Sometimes its about the quality of lights even at home, sometimes about the team batting first having an unfair advantage over others again at home, sometimes about umpiring, sometimes about non implementation of UDRS and now about rankings.

How'll he react when his team goes to top of the same rankings after defeating India in this series?

Would their no.1 rank be fair then? Especially knowing that they've not won an overseas test (forget about the series) for god knows how many years!!!

PS: Did I mention that they're yet to win a single test in Aus, SA and Ind?

SL only has to draw this current test to push Australia down a ranking.

Sanga will take it when SL go to the top which looks more than likely. I reckon what Sanga is really pissed off is the fact that somebody like Dhoni, who Sanga would justifiably consider as being at least on par if not better in terms of feats, is rolling in riches several fold, simply becasue he is from India. That is the roll of the dice Sanga. If it were not for IPL Sanga would be still be earning just peanuts that his board can afford.
