Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
Adams Hits Ton as WA Dominates
07/12/2010
Bayswater-Morley batsman Phil Adams struck a superb century as WA dominated the opening day of the match against the England Performance Programme squad at Lark Hill.
Adams was well supported by Retravision Warriors opener Luke Towers and WACA Development Squad member D'Arcy Short, who both registered half-centuries, as WA went to stumps at 4-305.
It was a disastrous start for WA after skipper Michael Johnson won the toss and chose to bat first. Fremantle opener Matthew Milton fell in the third over of the day to experienced England quick Liam Plunkett.
But Adams and Towers combined for a 162-run second wicket stand which put the home side in a position of ascendancy.
Towers was dismissed for 74, but Adams carried on to make his second senior representative ton for WA. In the process, he added 103 for the third wicket with Short.
Adams eventually departed for 119, but it did not stop Short from opening his shoulders and blasting his way to 62 from only 68 deliveries.
Warriors rookie Jake Fawcett (17 not out) and Scarborough's Marcus Stoinis (14 not out) were at the crease at the close of play.
Jamaican-born Essex fast bowler Maurice Chambers was the best of the visitors' bowlers, picking up 2-35 from 17 overs. Plunkett (1-59) and Hampshire left-arm spinner Danny Briggs (1-48) were the other wicket-takers.
Play commences on day two at the home of Rockingham-Mandurah District Cricket Club tomorrow morning at 10.30.

Re: Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
The two wickets Chambers got were Adams and Short slogging late in the day
Towers has a first class ton
Stoinis has played a few games for some decent scores ...he was WA and/or Oz U19 captain a few years ago
Fawcett played a couple of ODD games without many runs
Adams and Milton havent played FC cricket ...score heavily in grade cricket though
Short is from the NT and is on the WA DEvelopment program
Johnson is the keeper and played a few games a couple of years ago when Ronchi lost form/got injured ...probably as good a keeper and a good batsman but not as explosive as Ronchi....His dad played Football for Derby County(?)
Porter has played a few FC games ...
I umpired Luke Douglas (SLA) regularly last year in third grade and he was struggling to take a wicket but did bowl tidily ...somehow he's taking wickets in First grade this year
the others are grade trundlers including a couple of state switchers ....Paskal Huckett Hansberry and James
They covered the gane on the radio today ...but they'll be calling the game from Brisbane tomorrow ...but the said it was on the CA livestream if anybody can be bothered

Plunks and Danny Briggs bowl the WAs out for 380, finish the day 203/3 (Stokes 70, Taylor 87*)
Re: Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
4-60 for Briggs, decent prospect.
Ben Stokes, never be a cricketer till he gets to a dentist. A Ranga and has Peter Siddle teeth... poor lad

Re: Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
Meanwhile the England Performance Programme squad has fought back on day two of the match against WA 'A' at Lark Hill.
At stumps the visitors are 3-208 in their first innings, in reply to the home side's total of 389.
WA resumed on 4-305 and Marcus Stoinis (40) and Jake Fawcett (36) carried on from where they had left off yesterday. But only skipper Michael Johnson (19 not out) was able to reach double figures after the top six batsmen had been dismissed.
Hampshire left-arm spinner Danny Briggs was the best of the bowlers, as he was in the limited-overs match between the teams last Friday, picking up 4-60. Pace trio Liam Plunkett, Maurice Chambers and Jade Dernbach each took two wickets.
England was in early trouble at 2-30, but a partnership of 112 for the third wicket between Leicestershire opener James Taylor and Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes got the innings back on track.
Stokes was run out for 70 from only 84 deliveries, bringing Yorkshire Captain Andrew Gale to the crease - a man who has not had much luck in the middle since arriving in Australia.
He went to stumps on a confidence-boosting 32 not out, while Taylor was unbeaten on 87 at the close of play. Drew Porter and Cameron Huckett each have a wicket for WA

Re: Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
Meanwhile, the England Performance Programme squad has roared back to life on day three of the match against WA 'A' at Lark Hill.
An innovative declaration from visiting skipper James Hildreth set the game up for an exciting finale. EPP closed their first innings just before the lunch interval on 3-340, a deficit of 48.
Leicestershire opener James Taylor finished on 137 not out, while Yorkshire Captain Andrew Gale made a welcome return to form with an unbeaten 113.
The EPP started the second innings in devastating fashion, reducing the home side to 4-22. Jake Fawcett (42) and Michael Johnson (75) led the recovery mission with an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but the match remains delicately poised with one day to play. WA is 8-175, a lead of 223.
Warwickshire paceman Chris Woakes picked up 3-58 to show why he is being touted as a future England representative, while Surrey's Jade Dernbach took 2-23 from 12 overs.
Play begins on the fourtn and final day at 10.30am

Re: Pommy Performance Squad vs Wozzie seconds
So Danny Briggs backed up his wickets with 38 opening the batting in the second innings? Interesting. We could have a prospect on our hands.
