It was 9 years ago this week....

that a dreadful week in Auistralian sport was coming to a climax. We'd just blown our World Cup 2002 spot, in laughably similar circs to four years previous, we'd lost the Davis Cup final, and in the cricket we were playing three Tests against the most incandescantly mediocre team ever to set foot in Australia and somehow failing to win any of them, and Warnie blew the chance of a lifetime toi score a Test century. The only relief to the gloom was that Anthony Mundine had had his head comprehensively smacked in and his nose pointed in the general direction of theHorden Pavilion arc lights.

Fast forward nine years. Australia has just made a comprehensive arse of its case to host the World Cup, we've been walloped at cricket and the Ashes look shot to hell, but at least we could again point and laugh at Anthony Mundine....
