Headline of the week
In the Sydney Morning Herald today, referring to France repeating their 1999 upset win over New Zealand-
'What's French for Deja Vu?'
Idiots.

I don't know how anyone can be angry with them at the moment. I'm still too busy laughing!
Rather a clever headline from the SMH there, I thought...

Have you read the papers in Aus before a big England v Australia rugby match, JKL? Some of it is downright offensive.

It's not so bad for the small England v Australia rugby matches.

Do you not think some australians might be a little embarrased by the headlines too?

Have you read them since? There's loads of coverage in them slagging off stupid disrespectful journos and ARU officials for what they said. Be fair, if you're going to mention one, mention the other.
In fact, go the rugby thread on here and watch the rant of epic proportions that Alan Jones dishes out to those journalists. The link's on the latest page, you can't miss it.

Re: Headline of the week
The theme in the SMH was,"What a disgrace that Australia lost to such a piss poor England team". The fact that England played out of their skins to beat them wasnt mentioned much.
Im not slagging off Australia, anyway. Just 1 newspaper.

And how is that different to the common theme in 2003 - how on earth did England get run so close by such a piss-poor Australian team?
Yes, it's a bit ungracious, but they're serving their market, not ours. And so they speak from a partisan perspective, same as ours do.
Some of the coverage did go over the top, definitely. But it does here sometimes too.

Turn it up - there is plenty of recognition of how well England played. Crowden goes on about how just about all the England tight 5 can bench press more than any of the Aust tight 5.
But as an Australian paper, of course they are going to concentrate on the Aust performance.
And of course, no English paper ever said anything bad about an Australian side.

Re: Headline of the week
Well of course, the English papers come up with some complete shite as well. But, in keeping with the spirit of things on this forum, all of a sudden im being accused of having a go at everything Australian because I take a swipe at 1 newspaper headline.

Re: Headline of the week
Best headline of the week was in the local Sunday paper:
AUSSIES AND KIWIS OUT OF RWC
Sure, no wit or originality about it, but none was needed. :laule:
