I have huge admiration for Trott, but at six in an ODI - Bopara or Trott? it's not brain surgery!

I think our better performances in limited overs cricket has come from a change of mindset rather than player. I mean, who here would believe after that T20 WC tournament that Ian Bell would be opening the innings within the space of 4 games?

Flower has shown a ruthlessness in selection that means under-performing players will be dropped no matter what their standing. Which makes it even more puzzling that they're persisting with Luke Wright.
Could it be that he's playing such a minor role in games that he's slipping under the radar and they've actually forgotten he's in the side and performing rubbish? That's the only explanation I can think of.....

Actually in T20 I can recall during the T20WC a few mid innings bashings from Wright but I think its because his 50 over record is equally as dire that he's getting on my nerves...
He's just 'there' ... I can't recall a more non-entity ever playing cricket for England. At least Ronnie Irani was... er..... 'fun' (and had a decent county record to back up selection)

I can remember Wright scoring a big hundred in a Pro 40 against Glos who, bless 'em, had a worse attack than The Pears. Basically, Glos served up long hops outside off stump to Wright for the best part of twenty overs and he duly smacked them to the boundary. I think he's been living off that for far too long.

That, and a plucky 50 on his ODI debut over three years ago.

So, we're agreed then - he's running on empty.

Relatively harmless entertainment last night. We were always 20 short but Watto did his best to make a game of it. O'Keefe spooning two off Belf early was probably the difference, along with our carp middle-order batting.

+ 's watto was terrific with bat then ball, sok stuck at his task, mytyt organised the troops well in the field (but could not get bung to bowl to instructions), paine was good behind the stumps, finch looks a player...warner batted with a bit of sense...it went down to the last ball
-'s middle order lost its way, dropped catches, having a team with midge, spud and bung is just asking to be spanked

Aye....why would you bat Finch & Smith ahead of Paine?
Re: Australia v England, First T20, Adelaide, Jan 12, 2011
More to the question, why did they pick Paine ahead of Haddin if they don't have confidence in Paine's hitting ability? I can't imagine them dropping Haddin down the order the way they did with Paine after a good start from the openers.

In any case, Hussey, YT and Finch using up balls to get their eye in after a 9 over opening partnership was criminal given the firepower left in the shed at the end.

Warner was sluggish as well. He's better off either hitting out or getting out. He's not picked to play like a proper batsman.

The difference in England's support staff and Australia's was aptly summed up by the way the English bowlers shut Nikki down with the short stuff. He had no clue except for one good shot into the stands. And what did we do? Except for Watto, bowled pies. Neilsen lecturing the likes of Spud, Bung and Midge is akin to a blind man teaching deaf students.

Just as well, because he's not a proper batsman.Henry wrote:Warner was sluggish as well. He's better off either hitting out or getting out. He's not picked to play like a proper batsman.

I could just as easily have said a bowl of cold sick and the point would've held.
Pete Trego, Ben Stokes.....even Darren f*cking Stevens would be worth a go ahead of Wright at the moment.
Matt Spriegel.
The cheating qunt would fit in well with the rest of the poms

That's Slurrey for you. We are certain that they indulged in a bit of ball-tampering during their game at Worcester last season.

What is Luke Wright good for? Nothing. Literally nothing. According to cricinfo...Dello wrote:JKLever wrote:Henry wrote:F*ck Luke Wright is rubbish. We've got out test team sorted but there are too many passengers in the one day squad.
Aye, a complete passenger. How many times does he pick up a pay cheque having done next to fark all.... no wonder all the yoof want to get into T20
Been a while since we had one of these "what's the point of Luke Wright" debates. Probably since the last time England played a limited overs game.
Only bowled one over in the T20 WC, so I think it's fair to say he's being picked for his batting. In which case, Jonny Trott and Michael Lumb must be pretty bloody embarrassed to be overlooked for selection in favour of Sussex's finest.
Ravi Bops isn't even in the squad, I don't think.
•Luke Wright's second-ball 0 gave him the unwanted joint title for most ducks in a Twenty20 career.
