lardbucket wrote:uote="JGK"]Are there actually any Tozzies in the Tozzie team?
That's fairly poor form, JGK.
Excluding Paine and Ponting (currently playing for Australia), Geeves (out with a nasty injury, who'd otherwise play over Maher or Drew) and Wade (currently playing for Victoria) and maybe one or two others I've forgotten across the land, we've got 7 or 8 in this finals side, from a base population of 400 000.
Kruger and Cowan hardly set the world alight playing for their states of origin ... Tassie's coaching set-up has allowed them to flourish. Michael Dighton was a similar case. Cosgrove was unwanted in South Australia and has been given a second chance (second helping?) ... jury's still out on that one, for mine. I think Maher is the only other 'furriner'; he was never going to play state cricket elsewhere.
So we've got 7 homegrown players in the match, 1 top-class player ruled out by injury, and two representing the country. I don't see 80-100 Shield standard players from NSW, whose base population is 10 times more; Tassie is punching at or above its weight.
In addition to the players mentioned already, we've had players like Wright, Denton, and Miller ... never in national contention before they played for Tasmania. Instead of belittling the Tasmanians because they've got 'imports' like Cowan (who must be itching to score more runs against your mob) and Kruger and Cosgrove; all of whom have had their best seasons ever; you might wonder if something's being done right down here. I give a lot of credit to Tim Coyle.
Having said all that, we're up against it. Your Wozzie import played the crucial innings on day 1. I'm just glad you haven't got your Q'billy spinner available to take advantage of conditions on day 5.[/quote]
and of course the spivs had vix Nevill behind the stumps as well

Well done Tozzies.
But aye, kudos to Fleas for the gutsy declaration. Phews and Frog should've pushed it along much earlier. Phews looked like he was more content with a ton in each innings over victory efforts. MEW was pretty livid with him.
lol....fleas declared because he was out and cranky about being running out....dill crab

Big Dog & Lardy should be partying tonight. Their team deserved to be champs this season. Maybe the occasion might even result in a brief return by Taily who will also be celebrating a great win.
my sentiments entirely WW...cheers Big Dog and Lardy and tailly (in absentia)
great effort all season by the tozzies...pity the spivs did not make more of a game of it after being on top on day 1

Hearty congrats to the mighty Tozzies, the best side for most of the season, and certainly at the end that counted. Well played and enjoy the celebrations of that 2nd Shield win.
nice to see skully again recognising the tozzies are the spiv's masters...wonder if this thread will stay on the front page for another year

I don't know about that. Spivs actually won the first two days & day four. It was Tassies effort on day three that set them up......and Fleas sporting declaration (but it was'nt as though he had a choice).

Yeah I had a problem with "sporting declaration" too. Choked on the stolly. Though it was ABC radio so they may have been taking the piss as well.

Re: Shield Final: Mighty Tasmania v Wimpy Dubbers (v 2010-11)
hmmnn...I am more than happy to debate issues S...and usually without vitriol..
so I would be delighted to read your regular contributions to this now celebratory thread..
so here are some propositions for your considered response
should Butters be immediately selected for the next national team?..I believe his record with the ball and the bat suggests he would be a more than able to addition to the renewal of the Australian team
Is Forks another promising allrounder worthy of national consideration?...I believe yes though he may need another season to mature
Is Cozzy the most obese player t have played shield cricket? I think not tho he is a trier. Colly Milburn and Ritchie woiuld comfortably top the Cozzy scales.
Did the NSP take Paine to the WC to nobble the Tozzies? I do not believe he played one game. The NSP on its deathbed committed to Haddit.
Why do do NSW clear decent players to other States - eg Cowan and Hastings while retaining hacks like Warner and Reeks?
Did Fleas declare in a fit of pique after his runout?
Why did Gilbert drop the most promising of the young spivs - Maddison when he would have learnt a lot from playing in the pressure of a shield final?
Why is the Shield Final final under threat?...Players love it and fans take great interest...Is the unhappy combo of the jellybacks and the spivs (symbolised by the execrable Hildy) the cause of this threat (because they are simply no good)
I look forward to your considered responses Skullywag

There was a pic in the local paper taken yesterday of Cossie & a couple of others at a pub, still in their whites. Sounds like the boys have been partying hard.

Why does the sun come up in the East?
Why don't you spit into the wind?
Why is Cossie so fat?
....some questions are just not meant to be answered.
Re: Shield Final: Mighty Tasmania v Wimpy Dubbers (v 2010-11)
The third one is easy to answer.
Same reason why most people don't sh!t upwards.
Except possibly on this forum.

Re: Shield Final: Mighty Tasmania v Wimpy Dubbers (v 2010-11)
A CAREER-high 71 in the Sheffield Shield final against NSW last month from James Faulkner not only helped lift Tasmania to the title, it also secured the 20-year-old the Ricky Ponting Medal.
The supremely gifted all-rounder was last night crowned the Tigers overall player of the year, despite not getting in the top two places in any form of the game.
In a tight count that went down to the final, Faulkner's performance with the bat in the first innings saw him edge past his captain George Bailey to win the coveted medal.
Bailey did not walk away empty-handed, winning the Jack Simmons Medal as the Tigers' best one-day player of the season.
Quietly spoken all-rounder Luke Butterworth won the David Boon Medal as the Shield player of the year, while spinner Jason Krejza took home the Twenty20 Big Bash award. - Mercury

Tim Coyle has been re-appointed head coach of the Tigers for another two years. Since his appointment in June 2005 he has won two one day titles & two Shield titles.
As head coach he will oversee the new T20 franchise however a decision regarding a coach is yet to be made.
