Rudi axed
It is being reported that Koetzen has been dumped from the SL v Eng tests due to the poor decision against Sanga in Hobart.
While I think it is good that Umpires pay a price (as do players) for poor performances, I'm not sure that one bad decision is sufficient to get dumped from a series. What do you think?

Wouldn't have happened if an Aussie was the batsman.

Yep, the ball passed very close to the under edge of the bat before crashing into Kumar's shoulder . . . a lot happening very quickly and a tough one.

If it was an Aussie batsmen everyone would have had a good laugh and tell us that it evens out in the long run. No outrage in the slightest.
That's the price you pay for stuffing every other team for the last decade.

Isn't Rudi replacing Bowden for the remainder of the India-Pakistan series?

Re: Rudi axed
Well if a player performs poorly he gets dumped from a series, so I have no problem with the same happening to an Umpire.
As far as the Sangakkara decision goes, it's all very well you Aussies saying,"It was a tough one" etc(And like hell you wouldnt have been calling for blood if it was Ponting who was sawn off for 192 with Australia in the same match situation as Sri Lanka was, but anyway...), but the fact is, the DOUBT should still go to the batsman.
Let's not forget that Rudi also borked with his finger the previous day when Jaya showed his bat. Unsporting from Jayasuriya? Perhaps. But the fact is it showed that Koertzen has lost confidence in his own decision making.

.
Aleem Dar gave an horrendous decision against Katich at a vital time in the last Ashes series. There was disgust by Aussie supporters at the time but in the end there was recoginition that the England clearly deserved to win the series.

If Rudi's lost a series on the back of one bad decision I can only assume that after his performances in South Africa Mark Benson will never umpire again.

MB, you should know better than to waste precious moments of your life reading any Mudge pontification, especially anything that appears after the phrase 'you Aussies'.
The Sanga sawing-off was absolutely caned by everybody who expressed a view on the forum at the time, except that well-known Aussie JKL who allowed that it was 'a tough decision'. The rationalisation and laughing off of the decision that he was hinting at, just did not happen.
Trev is just looking for more kids for Matt Hayden to swear at.

Surely this is punishment for what hair alleged rudi said?
As others have stated the likes of dar and bensen would be gone as well if one howler was enough.

Where did the Australian media enter into this?
I can't find any stories on the age or the australian about rudi being dumped for making a mistake?
Which papers made the allegations?

The big question will be if Rudi is allowed to umpire against Pakistan after everyones friend Daryl Hair said Rudi had called them "cheats"

Problem is hair was basically sacked because the asian teams said he couldn't be trusted.
Would be pretty hard to swallow if pakistan then used hair's words to hang rudi.
