Red-hot Katich first in over a century to be axed after tons
http://www.theage.com.au/news/sport/cricket/redhot-katich-faces-axe/2008/09/28/1222540247484.html
Looks like Jaques will retain his place ahead of Katich despite his 2004 experience on these type of pitches.

Look out Red. PB will have a woody that you might see from Melbourne.
Still appears to be mostly conjecture to me by young Chloe.

sadly, those conjecture pieces usually ended up being spot on.
I think you may find that Chloe has been hanging around the end of Merv

Actually, I had a bit of a look when wondering if anyone had ever been dropped after scoring back-to-back tons and couldn't find anything.

He hasn't bowled much at all since he moved to NSW 5 or 6 years ago. Mainly because NSW always had "better" spin options. He bowled more for Western Aus beause they had no one.

Re: Red-hot Katich first in over a century to be axed after tons
I have checked out McDonnell's story and either there was some fall out with the administrators of the time (not an unusual occurrence) or the selectors panicked something dreadful.
McDonnell scored 103 at The Oval in Aus's massive 551 (including Murdoch's first ever double ton in Tests) in the final Test of the 1984 England series and then made a very creditable 124 and 83 at Adelaide in the 1st Test of the 1884-85 series. Australia lost the 1st Test by 8 wickets (with only McDonnell performing at all) so the selectors made NINE changes (including dropping McDonnell) for the 2nd Test, which Aus lost as well (thrashed by 10 wickets). Aus then won the 3rd and 4th Test to square the series 2-2. McDonnell had been recalled to the 4th Test squad then was dropped for the 5th Test, which Aus was again thrashed in by an innings to lose what looks like a classic series 3-2.
The 1884-85 NSP looks more farked than the current mob.

As I said - he bowled because you didn't have better spin options.
He has hardly bowled a ball in the last 4 seasons

happy days - although it's kinda sad that the only reason I knew it was Trev's birthday was because they are racing at Belmont

And Dizzy will probably always go down in folklore as the only batsman dropped after an unbeaten double ton.

Re: Red-hot Katich first in over a century to be axed after tons
This wouldn't be the first time Katich has been dropped after scoring a ton.
The selectors dumped him in 2004 after he saved Australia's bacon in the final test against India.
And Shane Watson manages to force his way into the team due to some good form in Twenty20 cricket FFS!

We may have more of a clue when we see the openers picked for the upcoming four day match. If Jaques is the one it means he is over his injury but he still has to perform in that match. Can he handle Indian conditions?
We know Simon can.

I will find it absolutely amazing if Fleas is left out (as I'm sure my Indian colleagues will). If they've made their mind up on Watson at 6, surely Fleas performance as an opening in the WI compared to Jaques would have him continuing in the no. 1 spot.
Fleas must have gone to the christening of Punter's little girl and spat on her forehead.
