Re: Formula One 2011
All Button needs is for his team-mate to take Vettel out at the first corner in each of the remaining five races, and then to hold off the challenge of Alonso, Webber etc. each time...
I can't help thinking the ban on mid-season testing has prevented the others closing the gap on Red Bull. Webber must be under a lot of pressure when you compare his results to his team-mate, and look at the fact that there are a few past world champions on the grid in what they will see as uncompetitive cars. Although now Vettel is established as the number one he will probably demand a team-mate who knows his place, like Schumacher always had, rather than a genuine rival.

I watched the movie 'Senna' recently ... some great archival footage, very well edited and presented. Recommend it to all F1 fans.

That,s a touch unfair. When Schumacher was trying to kill anyone between him and the championship it was at least a little bit of a lottery.

Well, he's just won the World Championship with something like four races left in the year. By finishing third.

He could take an early minute. That'd be arrogant, but would pretty well rule out the Jochen Rindt option.

That must be a first - Webber actually gained one place in the first lap.

Topical given Dan Wheldon's death this morning in the Las Vegas Indie 300. Very nasty multi-car pile up claimed the life of 33 year-old Whedon.Zat wrote:

Yeah not F1 but close enough. RIP Dan Wheldon.

Re: Formula One 2011
The remarkable safety record of F1 in recent times perhaps makes people forget the dangers of motor sport, and it seems there were particular concerns with this track before the event. Racing three or four side by side on an oval at 200mph does seem a recipe for a disaster like this, and it's perhaps remarkable that the other 14 drivers involved walked away relatively unscathed, it could easily have been a multiple tragedy of historic proportions for a top level series.
Wheldon was clearly a great talent, he and his British rival Franchitti have never had anything like the profile of their F1 counterparts over here. In fact a lot of people had probably never heard the name before. But he will clearly be a great loss and this accident could be Indy's Senna moment in terms of reforming the safety aspect of the sport.

Re: Formula One 2011
Now, the two Red Bull cars are supposed to be identical. Yet Vettel seems to be able to go a lot faster than Webber. Not saying that isn't the case, but this is interesting...
More in Link to story about "Vettle"...
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has made Webber's success his priority for the last three races of the 2011 season.
"Mark is a crucial player for us," Horner said. "His performances have helped us win the constructors' championship.
"He's had a very strong year and we want to get him second in the drivers' championship.
"That's our remaining target for the remainder of the year - to get him a race win and finish the season in style."

Re: Formula One 2011
Its been obvious that the management have been favouring Vettle for the last couple of years. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when it looked like Webber would walk away last year but ended up resigning. Perhaps they made him an offer he could'nt refuse. I guess we'll have to wait for the autobiography to come out to learn the truth.
Re: Formula One 2011
Who IS this Vettle person and why does he want to help Max Weber?

Well Vettell one it so they've been doing at least one thing that everyone else is doing.
And Mark Webber went backwards off the start so make that two things...
The pollution was terrible which detracted from the spectacle.

Re: Formula One 2011
I wish they'd stop bumming Vettel about this record. He had 3 extra races than Mansell.
This isn't just a British bias thing, but 14 out of 16 seems better to me than 15 out of 19.

Re: Formula One 2011
Percentage wise, Mansell achieved pole in 88% of his races in 1992 whereas Vettel won pole in 79% of his races this year.
It's obviously still a remarkable achievement, but statistically Mansell's record seems the more impressive.
