Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (IV)
So now that Tony Abbott has failed in the key thing that he was elected to do by his party, will he resign as party leader?

And Z, I am waiting to see how the likes of you and I are affected by this new tax. I expect we will be screwed as usual. I fully expect to be worse off, when this is meant to be a wealth distribution tax. As usual, it will just hammer middle Australia, molly-coddle the bludgers and not touch the rich.
Aye, knowing what qunts capitalists are they will probably do nothing and pass the costs on to the consumer or reduce emissions and cut expenses but still pass the costs onto the consumer
Direct action has to be better than a hit and hope the bastards do the right thing apporoach

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (IV)
I do love how the coalition keeps saying the ALP is an illegitimate government because it doesn't have an outright majority. Wouldn't they be just as illegitimate a government if they'd struck a deal with the independents and/or greens?JGK wrote:So now that Tony Abbott has failed in the key thing that he was elected to do by his party, will he resign as party leader?
s, doesn't matter who's in power, middle Australia gets screwed.skully wrote:Lots of "probablys" in there, Z. That's the problem. It's probably a huge waste of time and energy to achieve fark all.

Direct action, according to the way the coalition plans put it, actually includes planting a lot of trees. Not a bad thing, except the figures suggest they'd need to plant enough trees to cover something like three times the Australian arable landscape. And who's going to pay for those trees? I suspect taxes. Or a levy of some sort. Or spending cuts in other areas. Screwing middle Australia regardless. We are so screwed.G.Wood wrote:Aye, knowing what qunts capitalists are they will probably do nothing and pass the costs on to the consumer or reduce emissions and cut expenses but still pass the costs onto the consumer

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (IV)
Trev summed it up in a nutshell. The Tax is a Garquen waste of time & money. It won't achieve anything except subject everyone to another unnecessary impost. The biggest carbon emitters won't do anything to reduce their emissions, they will just pass the cost on to the consumers so the aim of the Tax will fail right there.
This is nothing but a sellout the the Green qunts who simply don't care how many people end up on the dole que or how many businesses go to the wall, so long as their ideology is implemented.
The fact is that Gillard lied about the Carbon Tax at the last election but the next one will be her referendum.

When is the next election due?
How many times has a parliament run full term without a by-election in a govt held seat?

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (IV)
Great analysis by Crabb (skully and BD, don't bother reading it as she's a woman and works for the ABC so is obviously beneath contempt)...
andIn bringing the Parliament to this point, Julia Gillard is picking up the can that has been kicked down the road by John Howard, Kevin Rudd and, in his own way, Malcolm Turnbull. It's maimed all of them, this diabolical issue, but Julia Gillard is still standing, and has today pulled off a legislative feat that - under the circumstances - deserves recognition even among the non-enthusiasts.
full storyEven the hoary old issue of repairs to The Lodge, urgent recommendations for which have come across the desks of various prime ministers regularly over the last decade, has been picked up by this can-collector of a prime minister, for whom it seems no job is too fraught.
John Howard ignored the recommendations to spend money on The Lodge; Kevin Rudd, who had to live among its dodgy wiring and damp walls, likewise shrank from the politically unappealing prospect of deploying taxpayers funds to fix up the residence.
So it's Julia Gillard who will spend the money, who will move out of The Lodge, who will invite the ready allusions about her own impermanency, right at the exact time she needs them least. Even the timing of that announcement - yesterday, just as the Prime Minister was about to clinch her hard-fought victory on carbon pricing - seemed designated by an invisible hand bent on self-harm. Bloodied but unbowed, the Prime Minister steams on.

Crap Vulture performance about to be tested?
"JULIA Gillard's supporters are preparing to fend off leadership pushes from Kevin Rudd and Stephen Smith.
Labor's failure on offshore processing of asylum-seekers has galvanised leadership plans within the government, with Julia Gillard's supporters preparing to fend off a push from Kevin Rudd and key right-wing ministers coalescing behind Stephen Smith as a third candidate.
Policy divisions within cabinet and rising internal dissent over the Prime Minister's political strategy on offshore processing and her Malaysia Solution have intensified leadership jockeying within senior Labor ranks, The Australian reports."
-------------------------------------------
Let's see if Graham Perrett sticks to his guns if the numbers for Krudd or Smith are Vulture-slaying enough, and resigns from Parliament.

Dead woman walking?
"THE Gillard government appears to be terminally ill. That is the unavoidable conclusion from the latest horrific week in an appalling year for the Prime Minister.
Damaging leaks have now emerged from a divided federal Cabinet, following the latest catastrophe of asylum-seeker policy."
...
"As Cabinet leaks are exposing the disunity in the PM's inner circle, Ms Gillard's critics within government are now actively pushing for Mr Rudd to return to the prime ministership -- possibly in the new year.
A change of leadership is unlikely to fix Labor's problems -- but it would be hard to make them worse."

How long before the Vulture is beheaded with Krudd's blunt and rusty knife?
