That's my take. It's trying to compete with government owned enterprises and getting a kicking. Given that it's losing $200m p.a. Qantas should be happy to hand it back. The Labor Party gets a huge win with its base.

Other airlines would probably be happy to divert their cancelled flights to Thailand to fill the gap...

Re: Vale QANTAS
I'd be all for re-nationalising the international arm.
That's the only way I can see QANTAS remaining a good quality airline.
Otherwise more and more operations will be shipped off shore and standards will continue to drop.
I think it is in the country's interest to have a high-standard airline in operation, not just a plethora of cheap and nasty cut price organisations.

Re: Vale QANTAS
So the CEO of QANTAS (who is gay) was assaulted yesterday while giving a speech by a man who shoved a meringue pie in his face. Turns out that the assailant is a Charlie Church who objects to Qantas supporting same sex marriage.
I wonder if his use of terminology was deliberate:
“CEO’s need to respect Australia is a democracy where backdoor attempts to subvert the clear wishes of the overwhelming majority will cost companies bottom lines,” Mr Overheu wrote."
It's just a shame he didn't use a cream pie...

The dude has broken the internet now.
When you type in "gay creampie facial" into google, you get a picture of Mr Overhue...
