btw..what to make ofthe classical fuse dismissal...1st innings an aberration...has he done enough to maintain selection...
the watto dismissal was dire...when he has lost 6 kegs and is fit, put him in the middle order...the bloke aint an opener

It just highlights his technical deficiency. It was exactly the same ball as the first innings and he simply shouldn't have been playing it. It was outside off and well above the stumps. It was just catching practice. And Watto has shouldered arms and been bowled enough in his career to know better than that. From the highlights Koaja looked the goods and Ponting looked in pretty good touch. With 170 to get in 2 days, Pup, Paris and Haddit (if needed) should sniff out every ball, leave every ball they can and winkle out singles. No time for the hero shots. Hopefully Drunky continues on at the other end.horace wrote:btw..what to make ofthe classical fuse dismissal...
If Aus does win it, and that's a big "if", then it will confirm the folly of the strung out one day tripe and the lack of a 3rd Test.
And congrats to young Cummins. Bowled a few snorters. A well deserved Michelle on debut.

Agree S...watched most of it and Cummins bowled superbly...really hope he spends time with Steyn before he returns to Oz...wont learn a thing off the other Oz bowlers - other than to bowl with heart (from cot)..
really admire your optimism S and hope you are right...but my pension is on the saffies..
Watson is not an opener and fuse should be murdering park attacks with the GCS...
how about the new NSP pick openers with technique - from Davis, Madinson and Cowan

Who was Drunky directing the sledge to in the first innings when he said after his first delivery "that was faster than you were bowling"
I assume it was the chipwozzie peaheart with the tuffstickers

Maddinson's been Trevved. Unfortch I think Watto's injury will mean Fuse gets to stay, and then will probably murder the Sheep attack to earn the right to 7 failures and one 50 v Bannies.
But it's certainly time to consider blooding another young opener. With Watto's frail body, I'd stick with him in the no. 1 spot and only bowl him for 4 overs tops an innings. Koaja seems to have to technique and class to fit into the middle order. Drunky and Paris may pull up stumps at the end of the summer so there's room for another couple of young talents to be given a go.

Midge's possible resemblance to a bowler is purely coincidental

And fair play to Ponting. He's really ground it out in this innings. But it makes you wonder- Why didn't he try and do this 9-10 months ago?
The Aus selectors will still have a big call to make at the end of this series, imo. Marsh has done well, Khawaja has now got a good score.......assuming Watson and Marsh are fit for Brisbane, who do they leave out?
Ponting should do what Nasser Hussain did in 2004 and retire in order not to hold a younger player back.

Re the first test v Snozzies - there is a good chance that both Watto and MArsh will be injured so the question is who to bring in.
And no one is really putting their hand up in Shield.

Yeah it's a big assumption, but it's a scenario that's going to occur at some stage this Summer.

And I think the Aus squad for that match is picked before the Australia A game. Steve Smith is probably the front-runner. Or Warner batting at six. Good luck.

Ed Cowan?? Plus Trev said he would never play tests.
Almost makes him a shoo in

Fark me. With Watto out they will probably think they could do with the extra 'bowling' as well.
I hate you Trevor Mudge

Actually I forgot about Warner. Straight swap for Watto in the current team I guess.

Yeah, was out of town and made the mistake of assuming a news report that said "At Stumps on Day 3" was correct.JGK wrote:And for skully - isn't there only 1 day left?
Still, 140 in a day is hardly a big ask. Tahir's wrong'un might be the biggest threat.

The forecast isn't great for today. 40 overs needed for a result, I reckon.
