Re: Australia v India, 4th Test, Adelaide, 24-28 January, 2012
Def 3/2, then 4 for about 95 when Watson went....such was the reputation of the Addleville pitch that the commentators were still predicting a 400 score then.

Yes there was a bit of life in it early and then it really flattened out. Australia tended to bat more often when it was lively, best case being in Melbourne.
Still not convinced England is that flash either in these sort of conditions. They failed in Perth but spectacularly in Joburg 2009 when it was overcast and grassy with Steyn and Morkel in full cry. They failed miserably twice but haven't been tested too often since.

I think KP is fairly well lumbered with looking like that regardless.

We bowled you out for under 100 and were 0-150 at the close of play on day 1 at Melbourne. Surely the 'life' in the pitch that was there for England's bowlers was still there when England batted? The old saying "let's judge how good a pitch it is after both sides have batted on it" certainly applied there, and in Adelaide, and in Sydney for that matter. There's only so many times you can blame bad luck with the conditions on batting failures.
FACT- Batting is more difficult on a grassy pitch with overcast skies. Pretty much FACT- Australia and India tend to struggle the most out of all the teams in World cricket when playing under these conditions. 47 all out etc...

Same squad has been named for Adelaide but i suspect Lyon will replace Cot.
Re: Australia v India, 4th Test, Adelaide, 24-28 January, 2012
Regardless of what people think of Hodge and one or two others, they must think they are hard done by when they see the largesse extended to the poorly performing Marsh.
Selectors hinted that Lyon will play. Either Siddle will be rested or Starc will make way.
Arthur already making noises about the importance of building towards the Ashes.

Really? I thought he was close to our best bowler. Is he carrying a niggle?Big Dog wrote:Same squad has been named for Adelaide but i suspect Lyon will replace Cot.

Rotation policy.....he's played every test so far.....time for a rest especially as its a dead rubber.
Re: Australia v India, 4th Test, Adelaide, 24-28 January, 2012
Yeah, sorry, hadn't read the earlier pages. Even though Woody's response is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, I agree that Cot would probably not be chuffed to be left out as a reward.

Personally, maybe Rhino is due to break down, so he should be rested.

You forgot about much of the 2010 Pakistan series.

I am not confident Australia will win the final match at all, let alone in 3 days. We might lose in 3 days. Our record in such 'dead rubber' matches is appalling.

Well there's no recent precedent for a dead rubber. I think the last that Australia lost may have been to South Africa in 2009. Let's not forget India's shititude is also quite scary at the moment.

We may not have had the opportunity to lose a dead rubber for a while, but I'm sure we still have the skill.

Aye the DRS will come to the fore again, thankfully the Bannies are that crap away from home, it will result in a draw. as opposed to the usual dead rubber syndrome loss.

For Aus, a rotation policy will only work as long as Aus keep winning. As soon as Aus lose or even draw a test, the media will be all over them for resting the best players from a test, and the policy will be scrapped.
I can't imagine the likes of Allan Border and Steve Waugh approve of resting bowlers from tests. I can't imagine the rested bowlers approve, either.

Warney has endorsed Haddit at least for Adelaide. Meanwhile it's looking increasingly likely that Warner may replace the out of sorts Cam White as T20 skipper.

read an article in yesterday's Oz by Gideon Haigh re watto....Haigh has questioned the value of selecting watto, noting his batting has been bog ordinairy in the past year...also suggested that he may not fit easily in the current drassing room
watto himself has talked about playing as a specialist bat...but it seems his bowling may be of more value...his health may preclude long spells in future...this raises the question of whether and in what capacity he will be selected again

So in other words, Watson is a bit of a whinger who could bring the rest of the team down?
