Re - Bops - i'd echo what most have been saying here - good player picked way too early. Said it at the time he was selected too.
I'm not having this billy big bollox allrounder toss though....
Aye ... agree .. the lad was thrwn in far too early.
One day maybe (Vawn's/Bell's/Colly's/Shah's memoirs ??) we might learn the truth as to why Bop's was picked ahead of Shah.
If he was picked for his bowling ... then 25 overs in 3 tests doesn't back that theory.
If he was picked for his batting .. then IMO that was taking youth VS experience to the extreme,
and p!ssing all over the previous CC seasons batting stats.
I still maintain it has to be Vawn's myopia at Shah's "arrogance" ... and Shah refusing to give his skipper some 'light relief'.
But it's all history now!
And I'll bet Shah is quietly pleased now that he played no part in the shambles!

Shah should definitely feature in all 7 limited-over games against NZ as well as being given Bopara's spot in the Test Matches.
Geez, we're playing 7 against the Kiwis? Can't imagine it will be a feast of high standard, cutting edge ODI cricket.

Of course he isn't. Don't be idiotic. He should never have been picked, and blaming him for failing would be dumb.
Vaughan should be taken out and shot though. Then his body should be dismembered and his head stuck on a pike at the gates of Windsor Castle.

I think Ravi Bopara, should throw on some Kenny G, sacrifice a bit of lifestock then take a long salt bath while being fanned by some Bollywood beauties singing Firestarter by the Prodigy in Hindu.
He'll be Better than the Don then.

You can't write someone off as a failure at the age of 22 though. Some people think we shouldn't even be writing off failures at 38, so he has a fair few years in which to make it!

Re: Is Ravi Bopara finished?
England probably made a mistake not picking a good player of spin in shah but they would probably be making another mistake to pick bopara for a tour like this and then not give him another chance if he fails.
If they feel like he's got what it takes long term he's probably worth playing during the home summer.

From the article that Rachel posted a link to:
Might explain some of the recent selections.
Maybe they should find a selector that can be bothered to arrange a few of those intermidable several hour long meetings where they discuss possible options as the current streamlined process involving a brief chat, a blindfold, a telephone directory and an anal probe isn't working so well these days.
Instead of selection meetings taking several hours discussing possible options, Graveney’s conversations with coach Duncan Fletcher and fellow selector Geoff Miller are short enough to reflect the success gained from a settled squad and team over the last few years.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, so is being a smug git, so...
in view of the ease Jayawardena and Sangakkara scored all their runs and Bopara in all probability getting more runs on this tour while squatting over some dark hole in the ground in the ramshackle hut round the back of the stand than he did out in the middle would it of been worth following my suggestion of picking Adil Rashid instead? Might have been too early for him but at least he could have been a viable all-rounder whereas Bopara as far as I can tell never will be.

... and maybe Ramps wouldn't have been such a bad pick, either.

Nnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Look how the Sri Lankans played Monty - they would have creamed Rashid, which probably would have set his progress back by several years.
