I think the rain is likely to show more bouncebackability than England...

I think in recent times, England have even managed to get complacent about their reputation of being able to bounce back after a heavy loss. All the talk after we lost the first test to Pakistan in the Winter was of how good we are at bouncing back from setbacks, and bang crash, we went and got beaten again.

Had to chuckle at this
"England's bowlers took only two South Africa wickets in the first Test at The Oval but their captain, Andrew Strauss, backed them to take ten times as many in each of the final two Tests at Headingley and Lord's to win the series and retain their No. 1 Test ranking."
-------------------------------------
For the series sake, I hope he is right, but on T1 form, he must be referring to 20 run outs per Test.

hehehehe...and at this
"Our bowling attack has huge reserves of confidence. They have taken 20 wickets pretty much every time they have played for the last two years and this game doesn't change that for me."
poor Strauss

If South Africa reach 600-2 on what is surely likely to be a spicier Headingley pitch, then the whole lot of them deserve to be sacked.
Slow seamers are what we do the business on.

Well, I guess you don't become what looked to be a dominant no. 1 only 6 or so months ago (prior to the Pakster series - when was that again?) without the ability to take 20 wickets per Test. It was quite remarkable just how anaemic the Pom attacked looked at the Oval, particularly compared to what the SAffers were able to achieve with the ball. Still, I'm not prepared to write the Poms off just yet.

Headingley has become quite a benign deck these days. Bit in it for the spinners.
England will be banking on the famous Yorkshire climate to help them out. Otherwise it'll be the same outcome again - you can't bowl good sides out on good tracks with dobbers. India and NZ have proven that in recent years.

Amazing. Astonishing. No sense of irony, eh horrie? How many times did we pass 500 against your guys in 2010-11? Strauss is actually right, by the way. By and large, our bowling has been very good in the last two years, and there's hardly been a test where we haven't taken 20 wickets.
The worrying thing for me at the Oval was the fact that the South Africans bowled quicker, and got more movement. They were also more aggressive with their body language. I don't even remember a single Jimmy or Broad sledge. Weird.
It's the first time in a long time where England's opposition have found more movement in the air and off the pitch than their opponents.

...maybe people are being a little unfair on anderson et al...surely the english batsmen should have got at least another 100 in their first dig - while the effort of the top order was disappointing in the 2nd dig

Bit tricky to sledge at 636/2.
Anyway Smith, Amla and Kallis are virtually sledge proof.

Even at 1-1 they were timid. I've seen Kallis rise to some bait before. Didn't someone mention his recently dead father back in 2003 and he completely lost it? Low blow, mind.....

Probably not. But at least the bowling attack would have a bit more menace.

Mmmm... beach volleyball. Hopefully there'll be some classic English 'breeze' to jazz it up another notch.

Hope not. They have changed the dress code to allow for that
