Why does Ponting average 12 in India?

I mean, he's got 33 centuries overall and he did play eight tests there.

I do not think it coincidental that all Ponting's failures in India happened while John Howard was Prime Minister.

I was on Pakpassion where an Indian said Ponting's carp because he does badly in India. I thought, can't be, it's not as if they have Waqar and Wasim or such.

So I checked cricinfo, and I'm surprised....

Ponting has a 50 average against SL. Very odd! I like the Aussie way to play Murali - get after him and mess his head up. Unfortunately of the England players on KP is able to do so and he's lost a bit of form of late.

oh - I ignored that. If somebody reading it can't work out what an ack means it was a CWOTMIUITFP.

The only thing wrong with the "Ponting can't play Indian spinners" theory is that he averages about 110 against India in Australia.

TBH - I think it is just one of those quirks (like Sobers average sub 20 in NZ). For instance, in the last series he only played the one match at that disgraceful Mumbai wicket. Other than that, he hasn't played in India since 2001.

Hmmm. Like Gooch's rotten tour of India in '92. Having driven all before him for two years, he averaged 12 in three tests. That could be explained by his wife's sudden decision to divorce him, though.

Ponting has had a big problem with harbhajan and Kartik.

Not so much against Kumble.

I think in his younger days, Ponting was very vulnerable early in an innings. In 2000/01 Harby kept snapping him up before he could get settled. Punter's game is much better organised now.

very hard hands on that 2001 tour.

If i remember he was out bad/pad within a few balls several times.

Credit to the Australian selectors though they stuck with him for the ashes when most sides would have banished him to domestic cricket for a few years.
