Thank you for the wonderful memories Laxman.....
Thank you for the wonderful memories and artistry Laxman. Thank you for saving and winning so many tests we would have lost but for your gut of steel. People may have become legends due to their records, but when India needed a fighter to help it in trouble, it was not legends but You and Dravid who swam in quicksands and helped us sail through. Thank you for everything. You were and will always be Very Very Special. Aus tests won't ever mean the same without you. Your retirement finally ends Indian cricket's greatest chapter of it's summit and achievements.

VVS retires
"VVS Laxman's retirement brings curtain down on magical artistry at the crease"
-------------------------------------------------
He dined out on Aus bowling, even when we were at our peak. Well played, VVS, and enjoy your retirement.

Indian news sites are still slowpokes feasting on stupid Bollywood and attention seeking wannabes who promise to strip at every occasion for media attention. No one has a gist of this news yet and thank god for live TV.....

Always rated as the best of the Indian batsmen. Still think he was the highest average of his generation in SA.

Great player in his time.
Retired a year or two late, but all the same, in the pantheon.

Great player, great memories. Rest, administration or media? Either way, hope his retirement is a good one.

Was there a better flicker of the wrists through midwicket? I doubt it.

Sacrilege to mention that cheating qunt Azhar in the same breath as one of the game's great players and gentlemen. Certainly, I think it is hard to think of any other foreign cricketer who is more admired in Aust than VVS. Maybe only SRT and BCL.
He performed against the best when need most. Hard to ask for more than that in any player.

So, down to one of that famous generation of Indian middle order batsmen now then. Time for some of the younger ones to step up or they will be stuck battling with NZ and WI at the wrong end of the Test rankings.

We're gash, but not New Zealand gash. They're the international Unicorns. We have good talent coming in with the bat, they could well come good with time.beamer wrote:So, down to one of that famous generation of Indian middle order batsmen now then. Re: Thank you for the wonderful memories Laxman.....
The same NZ side has drawn 3 of 4 tests in India despite a star studded Indian line-up. These same guys recently wrecked Aus in a test match away. I have said long back that once Dravid/SRT/Laxman are gone, we will struggle to even win tests at home. No room for complacency as this is a great chance for Kiwis to surprise us and they know it. That said we now travel the same boat Aus did when McGrath, Warne, Langer and Martyn went enmasse. Best chance for both Eng and Aus to rub it in on our home soil next. The likes of Raina, Sharma etc are crap for tests. Sehwag is just a parody of his former self. Gambhir is another FTB. He could score at home tests this season but we all know what will follow after that. Zaheer is the new Shoaib Akhter. Now he plays a test then he injures next. Both pace bowling and spin is gash for us. Pujara though a good prospect still has to establish himself. I am not so optimistic for this side and season. Any bottom side can fancy beating us right now.

Re: Thank you for the wonderful memories Laxman.....
India's best batsman and his best scores. Just revisiting these performances make my eyes moist with sadness. God, what would we have done in most of these tests without him. That would have been 14 more test defeats and we would never have experienced our summit.

the batting was never the real problem. we will do ok with the new lot
though we may never have the same powerhouse to cover our embarrassingly weak bowling

Farewell VVS. One of India's greatest. Here's a tribute. THAT innings. If you don't watch all of it, at least watch the shot he plays at 8.07. Awesome stuff.

Re: Thank you for the wonderful memories Laxman.....
Giving rope to youngsters is one thing. Selecting proven test failures overseas like Raina is a criminal suicide. If these are the 'replacements' BCCI thinks worthy of the likes of Dravid/Laxman then they might as well offiicially shut down tests in India and just play IPL all year long.
