Trouble in Aus State Politics - Page 40 Empty Re: Trouble in Aus State Politics

First new Oppo head honcho after government, for either party, has never made it to the Lodge since at least WW2. The rules say there has to be an opposition leader and most times when you"ve been thrown out on your ear the field of viable (and willing - eg Costello) candidates ain't often star-studded. Mutton is keeping the seat warm while they decide who they really want leading them into the next election.

Cue deluge of spray-on outrage from the Usual Suspects, frantically trying to remember why anybody need ever gave a flying arse about the Commonwealth Games.
(If this is to be the death knell, I suppose Birmingham is as good a final resting place as any....)

If it disappears, I expect British and Australian Olympic performances to slump in many sports. If nothing else it’s the key step along the way in the four-year cycle. Also pretty much halves the TV exposure for those sports that don’t have high profile World Championships, making it harder to attract new talent.

I guess it couldn’t survive forever on just alternating between the UK and Australia. London could maybe step in as a last resort but committing the costs wouldn’t be well received in the current climate.

He did us all a favor by taking the walk during Grand Final week, making the unctuous, nauseating triumphalism of the massed Sky After Dark & S Bend shriekers so much easier to ignore.

Most of the old guard are already gone (Merlino, the two Martins, Lisa N), and he was very much the one-man band, so Jacinta Allan will probably be his replacement, but she will have trouble keeping the newer and keener on any kind of leash post-Dan. If she can't, she will not make it to the next Sausage Day but I have no handle on who's next in line after her.

Meanwhile, the other shower have three years and two months to present as an alternative Government and to do that they will have to keep the Moira Damnations of this world at a deniable distance. Which will not be particularly easy because these days the egoes in the Clown Right are gargantuan.

Jackie Trad (former QLD Deputy) and WA Health Minister Sanderson are in the news for all the wrong reasons ... you know it's pretty bad when the ABC gives ALP people any heat. Tasmania's Elise Archer (liberal) exposed to those who didn't already know as a nasty piece of work. The quality of State Politicians round the country, on all sides, is prettyy low; and it probably always has been.

Annastacia Palaszczuk finally falls on her sword and resigns as Qld Premier.

She's pushing for Steven "Forrest Gump" Miles to become the new Premier. Rolling Eyes

Miles to Nowhere?

Crooked Pollies Walking Crooked Miles?

'I won't vote for Steven Miles/I'd rather vote for a dunny door' (to tune of 'I would walk 5000 Miles')?

(etc etc)

Undeniably most did well. The States rather than : the Feds were the stars in keeping our deaths as low as they were.
