Cruel to say of Punter that he's P/T in Hobart.
The theatre was the Tas collapse and recovery in their second innings. Otherwise, looks like it was a desperately slow match. Chess without the strategy or drama.
Has any alteration of the final format been mooted?
PS: Congrats to the Bicep Devils!

I agree that the Shield final needs a re-vamp. In recent times it's just been a battle for first innings points. How about scrapping points and making it timeless?

There are no points in the final. Its run along the same lines as a test match except the host team wins if its a draw.

Well that's even worse, because of course the home team will prepare the flattest pitch of all time.

I propose that His Lardship and BD meet up for a piss-up.

So what's that- Three of the last six Shields for Tasmania? Not bad all things considered, but they still haven't produced a world class cricketer since Ponting.

This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands ...

Neither has any of the other states including those in the current test side.

Great Article. Pity no one from Cric Oz will probably ever read it.

I know this is a recurring jibe of your, but I don't think there is much truth in it, unless 'recent' means 'in 2012-2013 only'.
IIRC, most of the Shield Finals in the last 30 years, even in the last 10, have yielded outright results. One of the few draws that did occur, years ago now admittedly, was a case of the last wicket pair hanging on against the odds to save the Shield for their side.
Anyway - Tozzies rule again. Three Shields. Not bad for a state which has fewer inhabitants than Blacktown in Western Spivland. I hope Dan Marsh can continue Tim Coyle's fantastic work and results. Having Ponting for another season would help.

lardbucket wrote:Possibly. He's the highest scorer in Shield cricket this year, by some distance; currently closing in on a thousand runs for the season at an average of 80+. (Ponting)
Meanwhile most other batsmen have struggled, and bowlers like Sayers, Mennie, Butterworth, Bird, and Gannon have been wreaking havoc.
If Harris doesn't break down, and bowls well in the 5 day final, he will probably earn himself a trip to England. He's probably in a straight shoot-out with Faulkner and Hilfenhaus.
... this from a year ago, before Harris' heroics in three series.

Really happy for Rhino.
Why? History says he's already bowled too many overs in this match and will likely break down.
Trevved?
