Music O/T: Similar songs
Obvious ones are Rod McStewart's "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" (to which the answer is inevitably: How Much Money You Got?) and the song it clearly ripped off, Jorge Ben(jor)'s tribute to an American blues singer:
An obvious one because thankfully, Rod was successfully sued over that one.
What about Phil Sloan's song of holocaust, made famous by the soon-to-be-evangelical Barry McGuire:
and a great song by Carole King and Gerry Goffin that happened to precede it out of NYC by a couple of years?
The later song sounds basically like a flattening-out of the same melody.
Anyone got any other points of comparison?

I knew someone was going to do Axis of Awesome. I thought it was going to be me, but it turned out it wasn't.

A lot Led Zeppelin's songs ripped someone off, whether it's Muddy Waters or Bert Jansch.

Another obvious one is the basic rhythm and key figure of "Rikki, Don't Lose That Number" (*****/Becker) and Horace Silver's "Song For My Father"
But I think that is honest plagiarism. A sort of nod of tribute, They probably even paid a fee.
EDIT: It seems you still can't write F-A-G-E-N!!)

***** has certainly acknowledged that - it's really just the opening piano riff, the root and fifth, in the 'hard bop' rhythm that he loved. I have an album of Silver's; it's all very good.

Not so much similar as a copyright infringement. Vanilla Ice used a sample of Under Pressure's bassline without permission.
Queen and Bowie have since been given songwriting credits.

You're allowed to rip yourself off. It's lazyism rather than plagiarism.
Then again Chuck did steal his sound from some 1980s slacker who'd travelled back in time to 1955 to try and have sex with his mum (I think that was the plot), so maybe he's not entirely an innocent in the murky world of soundalikes.
