Very nice.
Very sad.

Didn't she refer to herself at the Granny fangirl or similar? Lovely self-effacing manner. She will be sadly missed.

She also occasionally put up a "Miscellaneous" news story on here which always (apart perhaps from an accidental self-castration one, I think it was) made me chuckle. Others too, I'm sure.
Being on the newsfeed as part of her job no doubt gave her a rich supply of such stories, but she chose goodies.

I just saw this thread and read right through all the posts.., agree with every sentiment expressed. I loved her quirky posts and the gentle off centre threads she started.
Given how we all feel I cannot imagine what her family and friends are going through.
Thanks Taips for all your work on bringing this to our attention.

I cannot claim full "credit?" for this. There is another member (who I think does not want to be mentioned) who brought certain facts to my attention.

I remember Merv & Mynah's tête-à-tête's on C4. They were always worth a read. I'm sorry i did'nt pay more attention to her posts in later years.
Re: RIP Mynah
BD, I think you are thinking of Merv and Barbara, 'plain text forum' etc.

Re: RIP Mynah
Here is a small extract from the past from Niki (her real name has been mentioned a couple of times above).
When I responded to two posts in German in German on the C4 Cricket Forum, and was mailed by that Forum to be told I was banned for making posts in a foreign language - not long before the demise of that Forum - I emailed a few people I knew from the Forum to explain how it had happened, in other words "where I had gone".
She took the trouble to email me this:
Hi Peter
Those grounds are certainly ridiculous. Seems like some moderators just eliminate threads at random and ban those who had participated in them, regardless of merit. I myself (inexplicably - perhaps the trolls like me?) got banned only once, several days after posting the horrifically shocking words "Shit, what's happening?"
Even more strangely, the post itself was not cut...
The best of luck to you
Niki
I think this shows again, in a small way, the heart and thoughtfulness behind the slightly zany persona who called herself "mynah".

Good depth of batting and a nicely varied attack but perhaps the spin bowling is not the greatest.
Alan Davidson has the same birthday as me!
Niki in return:
There's Mark Waugh too, of course ... I guess the dearth of Gemini spinners can be explained by the fact that they tend to be slow and plodding ;-). Sadly, I only share a birthday with Ian Blackwell. :-(((

Re: RIP Mynah
Another post from Mynah:
With the holiday season round the corner and some of us planning holidays in distant countries, this is a cautionary thread about the pitfalls of travel… Embarassed
Two sisters who were colleagues of mine at another publication went to Greece one year. As they lay soaking up the sun on a topless beach, it gradually drifted into the one’s consciousness that the previous evening’s kleftiko had, perhaps, not been as kosher as she’d thought. Within minutes, she was pretty sure of it.
Disconcertingly, the cloakroom she’d banked on turned out not to have a toilet. Even more disconcertingly, having left the tourist-crammed topless beach she now found herself desperately miming her needs to the conservatively clad locals in the street, whose lack of English wasn’t improved by the distracting sight of her ample assets swinging with every gesture.
At last she elicited from one that the nearest toilet was some distance away, inside a very posh restaurant. She set off at record speed without daring to breathe, ran up the steps, flung open the door – and discovered at that instant that she should, indeed, have begun her journey earlier. Suffice to say that anyone who wondered where she went next need only have followed the yellow tracks to the ladies.
There is a part I’m still wondering about, though: I never heard how she got out of the restaurant again. I take it she didn't just wipe her arse and saunter out. How long do you wait until everyone had forgotten the sight of an almost stark naked woman appearing at the door and bursting in and out at the same time?

Well that's a pretty sad way to return to the forum after a few days out of it. Think she was one of the originals on C4 when I first forummed in 2003. Maybe wrong.

Indeed on the first point, JKL.
I hope you feel inclined (nevertheless) to post a leetle more often. Not for reasons of saving the forum (!), nor an absurd wish to drag you away from real life, but because you are one of those who most obviously humanise the place.
Perhaps an odd thing to say, but I mean "humanise" more as in humane, than as in human.
I mean, we're all human here.
Except the odd bot.
(Surely ...? ... *eek*)

Trying my best Pete, self imposed exile during the test (otherwise I fear I would live on the forum) followed by lack of internet kept me away.
