Re: 5th Test Over Rates
No ......... Kerrigan was on debut, facing a batsman well set. The bowler I refer to here was a 50 test veteran, bowling the first over of an innings. In the circumstances, this one is worse. I stumbled upon it when looking at the Boswell over.beamer wrote:Only big stage bowling meltdown that comes to mind that outdoes Kerrigan...Gary 111 wrote:Yeah, if you're captaining Scott Boswell you get an exception.
Linky below - I was shocked at the name ........
Look down to Australia first innings batting.

Growler
Gough could have bowled that same over many times and only conceded the 2 no balls
The Slater personality of the day was the "go hard at anything that looked wide" dasher
Could have easily been out 3 times in the over

Re: 5th Test Over Rates
Harmison has obviously had a few instances, the famous opener to the 2006/07 series is the most well known but wasn't there an over in a warm-up game on I think the previous Ashes tour before he was an established player, when the joke was that he had a new website, www.wwwww... (and the w's weren't wickets!)

Re: 5th Test Over Rates
embee, I appreciate what you're saying buddy - I guess I'm trying to say that, since even the best can occasionally get carted now and again, it's easy to tear into a kid who loses his nerve on debut in a big series, that's all.

What about one that bowls almost at the angle of Lasith Malinga and doesn't seem to rev it much?
Re: 5th Test Over Rates
I see Pidge and Diz were also conceding 9 in some overs at the start of the England innings!

even Merls has fond memories of that series...seems he has been rubbing the polish into the jackboots ever since...
Poms never looked like winning this last series as comprehensively

Aus were 95/0 off 14 overs - quite some start for the first day of a Test series!Growler wrote:No ......... Kerrigan was on debut, facing a batsman well set. Re: 5th Test Over Rates
And that was after Stewart & Caddick had put on 103 in 12 and a half overs for England's last wicket. I remembered that as an action packed first day, but didn't quite realise how action packed, 427 runs and 12 wickets on the first day of a series.
Re: 5th Test Over Rates
Aye Gaz - that's exactly the reason I'm not willing to jump all over Si Kerrigan for getting the equivalent of "first-night nerves" just now. Better bowlers than he have got carted in the past, and will do again.
