Reverse Swing
Is it possible without ball tampering ?
Imram Sarfraz Waqar and Wasim scratched the shit out of it
Chris Pringle used a bottle top
Mints apparently helped in 2005
Phaphuk is now the pom bowling coach ( Described by a former team mate as the biggest cheat with a cricket ball he had ever seen ...a sentence after he explained how Rana Naved had showed them how to open up the quarter seam to get reverse swing )
Warner has accused the Saffies of some sharp practices involving AB and his gloves ...and Faf was recently pinged for stupidity

Re: Reverse Swing
Perhaps it does require some sort of tampering, legal or otherwise. Make tampering legal, I say. Allow the bowlers to scratch the ball with their fingernails. No bottle tops, no dirt, no teeth. But it should be ok to rough up one side of the ball with fingernails.
Reverse swing makes the game more interesting.

I don't know why the Swiss army knife shouldn't be made a standard part of the quick bowler's kit.
Anderson wasn't around in 2005, was he? One example.

Wasn't there the ball tampering issue in the Champions Trophy last year?
The throwing the ball on the bounce is a weak explanation imo. Or at least half explanation.

. . . on the ONE condition - that if the ball loses its shape, then it CANNOT be replaced.
Period.
"Tough tits" voiced the Ump," you kicked this off, now get on with it."
PS - @embee - you forgot the 'dirt in pocket' sh*tfest involving Athers!
PPS - I personally wouldn't use Warner as a springboard for 'puritanical' protestations . . . the guy behaves like an adolescent thug, is as thick as pigsh*t and twice as nasty and, I'd wager, is the "voice" of Boof and the Aussie dressing room when something that irritates them needs airing in public.
The guy's a twat basically.

Yep. Warner is clearly the monkey.
BTW I was throwing the ball in on the bounce over 30 years ago. Its gets to the keeper quicker that way.

Re: Reverse Swing
I always throw on the bounce, feels more controlled too. But that as the sole tool for reverse swing, I meant. Then again, that's my opinion and I've never faced proper fast bowlers.

Stunning stuff. Aus have been 'reverse swinging' all winter - suddenly they're undone by it and, once again, they have a whinge about it. Nice to see they're still as pussyish as ever.
Re: Reverse Swing
That's not the point, Monkehh.
It's all about ethical victories.

Re: Reverse Swing
Agree with Trev, should be made legal. If the Saffers did "illegally" tamper the ball to make it reverse on Sunday then I'm all for it, was a brilliant last day and I would rather not be deprived of that sort of entertainment.

That's hardly the Spirit of Cricket what Mr Richard Punter solemnly reminded us all of, is it, Mr Vilkington?

And the spirit of cricket includes whining to the media about the other team "cheating" better?

Re: Reverse Swing
ou did, I hope, spot I was being very heavily ironic - when I had telegraphed it with a couple of bloody giant telegraph poles? (Ponting's name is not Richard Punter - nor, I hope, is vilks' the grandiose Mr Vilkington.)
The irony being that (rather like Bradman re: "intimidatory bowling"), Ponting showed his righteous passion about the Spirit of Cricket only when said "spirit" suited himself.
Exact same thing as this sudden stink about Reverse Swing - the point Danny indicated above.

Re: Reverse Swing
I think ball tampering is not on... (incidentally I am convinced the saffies would have flogged Oz in T2 irresepective of tampering...T2 was a case of normal service resuming)
the rules should make it clear the batting side has the right to inspect the ball and ask for a replacement if they consider there is undue change or damage to the ball...this should not be considered a charge against the fielding team

Re: Reverse Swing
Where do you draw the line? Polishing the ball is "tampering" with the condition of the ball - should that be outlawed? Personally, I don't think bouncing the ball counts as tampering as it's not using artificial means, e.g. a bottle top. Anyway, batsmen have it far too easy these days.

The Ashes was more about a bodyline approach than reverse swing ....Johnson around the wicket at left handers is my lasting memory of the series rather than reverse swing ...

Crap. The umpires check the ball at the end of every over. If you ask for a change of ball there is an implicit charge of cheating.

Super Shane Watson and Ryan Harris were getting reverse. I didn't say Aus won through reverse swing, just that they obtained it.
