Re: Ebola
Yes, it's only taken 3-4 months, but there seems to be a bit more general interest now.

Re: Ebola
The Texan Medical System's safety precautions seem to be a bit lax, to say the least.
Anyone watching the new series The Strain? It's very depressing and about an epidemic in New York based on a blood-borne parasitic worm. It's a vampire show but it has eerily similar storyline to the current Ebola crisis. The disease gets into the US via lax/corrupt border control, and spreads when no-one believes the senior CDC officer who's become aware of the disease and how it's transmitted.

Re: Ebola
Keep anyone who comes into contact with an ebola patient in quarantine for a week. No exceptions. Boring and tedious for the potentially infected people, but why not take all precautions if it means stopping the spread of a killer virus?

Re: Ebola
Band-aids. Better off stopping it at it's source. How many flights had she been on? The minor epidemic in the mid-nineties saw a see-sawing between farcical overkill and lax procedures.

Re: Ebola
quarantine is called quarantine for a reason
the median incubation period of Ebola seems to be around 35 days
quarantine = 40 days, or weeks

Re: Ebola
How unbelievably irresponsible of the aid workers who have taken the disease back to Spain and the US. Why didn't they follow the protocols in place??? Not to mention the amateur hour performance in Dallas.

What happened to my '6' in '6 weeks'? Weird.

Have none of these people ever played Pandemic 2? Once the borders are shut down you can't win the game.

Cairns docs who pointed out the uncomfortable truth to their bureaucratic masters still on enforced leave. Everything is in perfect readiness in Queensland, mustn't scare the horses.

There is nothing more strange than QHealth and its Banjo govt masters...
for much of the time I worked there it was led by a mad command and control doc who did not know up from down...the most extreme example I have seen of why doctors should not run health systems...docs shd do their diagnosis, cut and pasting, nurses shd nurse, cleaners clean etc.
the banjos are still running a 50s model of health management

Actually there's a peacable little country just off the coast of West Africa that hopefully closed it's border's months ago. Too far away by boat, well canoe anyway, and so small fleers would probably miss it.
Agree West Africa needs to be quarantined properly right now.

I guess the smaller ones could go to Sao Tome.
My post was just an inane reference to the game.

Re: Ebola
This again seems a case of massive apathy by the Yanks. The doctor treated Ebola victims in West Africa - why was he not in quarantine - at least a self imposed one? After his return via Brussels, he mixed with loved ones, went to a bowling alley and went jogging.
FFS, wake up, people.

Re: Ebola
A bit of a scare in Brisbane, a bit closer to the QLD Health bureaucratic top dog.
Hopefully none of the medicos there will be foolish enough to agree with the experts at WHO, as they have called the West 'unready' for Ebola, with 'chaotic' responses.
