Any chance Beetle could be a smokie for Test captain batting at 6?

If they need a replacement keeper & a replacement captain, I guess Nevill will be be asked to do both jobs, given that he plays for NSW.

Weed may have locked himself in for the Test keeper spot.

Rogers
Warner
Watson
AN Other
Smith
M Marsh
Haddin/Wade
Johnson
Siddle
Hilfenhaus
Lyon
AN Other, if Clarke is unfit, could come from the following and probably depends on form over the next couple of weeks: S Marsh, G Bailey, A Voges, Hughes, C Ferguson, T Cooper, D Hussey, C White
I am presuming that Rhino is not yet fit.
Also ... Sayers or NCN might yet be chosen for either Siddle or Hilfenhaus, depending on form and injuries over the next two weeks.
It's probably the most open field for a couple (if not three) bowlers and a middle order batsman for some time.

Will Aus bother with a spinner? I reckon Maxwell might yet slot in at six, and provide 10 overs a day of off spin.

I'd rather see 4 pace bowlers and no spinner at the Gabba than Maxwell, who offers nothing at Test level. He's not a batsman, he's not a bowler.
He may yet become a batsman, but he needs to learn his limitations first.

So with Clarke now close to being ruled out of the test summer the captaincy becomes a ponderable with Haddin battling injury and some suggesting picking Smith in this role would be a bolder move. Rogers now looks set to retain his place at least in the short term.

Cricket Aus isn't known for making bold moves.

Australia v India: Selectors set to name expanded squad for first and second Tests.

And you can bet your left tit that the NSP will include Fuse in the expanded squad just to annoy the shit out of the punters.

outnumbered by hilditch/simpson wannabes and the power of the Sydney media....
speaking of which last week some roob News Ltd flack in the Oz wrote a satirical attack on Peter Siddle and his selection chances...yes the guy is past it and was a great trier at best but it was an inappropriate attack on a pretty humble servant of the game.
