Congratulations Alastair Cook
I know we've not been the most positive about him for a variety of reasons over the last couple of years... but becoming England's all time record run scorer is some achievement, at the age of just 30.
His record certainly stands up to those just below him on the list. Here's to 9,000, 10,000 and possibly some way beyond...

Yeah, we can say what we like, but getting the record for most runs for England is a big deal. Great effort
Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
Congratulations to Cook. He's been in good form in the past few months too in tests.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
Well done the Chef.
Came good eventually whilst the kitchen burned all around him.
Dumping him from the ODI squad was the re-making of him.
Keep going you luverley boy ... make your Mum, Dad and your
excellent pedigree of a family proud of you.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
Are you suddenly his Chum, Merls?
Indeed, a mighty achievement for a still only 30-y-o. There have indeed been many hard words on this forum. But - two very lean spells with the bat apart - these have mainly focussed on his captaincy. Which again is a very different thing.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
It's a hell of an achievement, not least because he's such a limited batsman.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
For the most part I haven't had a problem with his batting, it's just captaincy that is the main problem.
I remember making a post in his first couple of years on here saying that he will be opening for England for the next decade and will score heaps of runs. I might search for it unless lards is feeling charitable...
Great achievement, should get well beyond 10k and put down a real marker.

You might still need to explain it again. Two short boards, etc.
Honestly I wonder if he can put his trousers on in the morning without doing himself an injury.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
Well done to him. I don't think any of us have ever doubted that Cook the batsman in form is an asset for England. If he can maintain his consistency, he'll challenge Sachin's run scoring record in about 5-6 years time.
It should be noted that it's LIKELY he'll lose the captaincy after the Ashes (assuming Australia win them), so it will be interesting to see if that helps or hinders his batting.

Probably do it a shed load quicker than you can manage with your incontinent nappy.

Re: Congratulations Alastair Cook
As has been said already - he's had a couple of lean spells in his career. That said, you do not become your country's record run scorer unless you have some clue as to what you're doing.
I'm glad he's been dropped from ODI cricket ...... now he needs to lose the captaincy to someone with a more positive mindset, and he can then fully concentrate on the job in hand, namely racking up runs as a top opening bat.
Still, congratulations on the record, Cooky. Keep going and set one to stand another 20 odd years.

The Belf is about 1600 runs behind Cook ...do you really want him in the team for the next 20 years until he passes Cook?
