Played England.
A definitive mauling.
Well played Stokes ...
Piss off Clarke, Sniffer, Haddin and Warner.
Cheers to Johnson, Starc, Rogers, Hazelwood, Voges and Lyon.
And a huge thumbs up to Rickie Ponting - a top commentator with a heap of dry humour.

beamer wrote:Well played England. This side is nowhere near the finished article but have players who on their day are a match for anyone, and have the talent and enthusiasm to go to the next level.
A good day's play to see yesterday, some frustrating periods of play and slight disappointment of not seeing the finish but it was rarely dull.
Reading through the match thread from yesterday, though... I'm getting a bit tired of the vilification of England players after one low score, bad spell or dropped catch. Sure, criticise players who fail constantly, but to suggest only two or three are worthy of their places is ridiculous. The comments on Wood and Finn yesterday, have people forgotten the earlier part of the summer, do they expect them to be Ambrose and McGrath (not Tim and Anthony of those descriptions...) and be world class nearly every spell?
We all have our favourites and "un-favourites" but let's enjoy a winning team, while constructively looking at what could improve. Not this "Player X is shit" a week after he put in a match-winning effort.
Anyway, onto the UAE and South Africa (via the Oval), we'll need to step up another level to succeed in those assignments. And find a couple of spinners!
Well said, Beams.
Perfectly put.

Honesty: as refreshing as drinking a gin and tonic on a windy day whilst getting your balls licked by a hungry coyote.
A cracking start for the new English coach. Well done him.

Eh? Warner and Smith are two of a handful of Australians who've earned their lunchmoney in this series.

It's the spiel from their respective mouths before the brain's engaged that pisses me off.

Has Steve Smith earned his lunch money? I suppose he won them a Test, ish. In the 6 other innings he's scored 96 runs.

It was an amazing coincidence that he looked a bit all over the place when the pitches weren't the roadiest roads that were ever roaded.

It is. And maybe he is a FTB. But how many non FTs is he going to play on? There aren't many about. He'll keep on scoring runs, for the most part
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Well, it's unlikely he'll be playing on flat tracks outside of Australia anytime soon. Teams will either request dustbowls or green seamers when Australia is in town. They seem to be completely clueless and unable to grind out a score on both types of surface.

Stereotype of whom? Aussies? Pretty much EVERY English and Aussie supporter on here was predicting their team would get thrashed. (except for Merlin, who was likely drunk on Pimms)

Consider the possibility that some of us, eg those tipping a 2-1 or 3-1 win to England, may actually have thought this was probable, rather than imagining we are all just woofing arrogant arseholes because of your default hostility.
I hoped it would turn out better than I thought. It has turned out worse.

But it wasn't that Trev ....... The general feeling was that Jimmy would have given the Aus team a second arse-hole. He did - but unfortunately for them, the other quicks joined in the punishment. Australian bats weakness against a moving ball was a genuine reason to fear a spanking.
It's conjecture, of course ...... but a fit Jimmy in this match making the start that Sturat did, (and with his record on this ground) - it's not beyond imagination that in the Aus first dig, Finn & Wood wouldn't have got a bowl - and Aus could have been looking at 40 or so rather than 60 in 13 overs rather than 18.

Is 10 overs the breakoff point? Short measure, if so.

I thought it was 10 overs for rain (25 for half refund) but no refunds for game completion if there is any play on that day, even if it's over in one ball.

I guess they will address it when it happens to the extreme, as per the "two-ball day" due to rain in the early 90s where no refunds were given at the time for a partial day's play.
