Lardy is talking about tomorrow, not today lads - he had tickets for Thursday through Sunday. There should be money coming back now the game is over .....

Consider the possibility that some of us, eg those tipping a 2-1 or 3-1 win to England, may actually have thought this was probable, rather than imagining we are all just woofing arrogant arseholes because of your default hostility.
I hoped it would turn out better than I thought. It has turned out worse.
With all due respect Lardy your views might have gained more respect if you hadn't made the same predictions prior to the WC.

I thought so too taips, but not totally sure ...... wondering whether Peter possibly questions if there are refunds for today since it was so short a days play.

FMD.
You guys are really f**king "glass half empty" clowns ... eternal pessimists ... continual critics
and forever deriding a team you both claim to "support".
At least the Aussie forumers on here shoot from the hip - expecting an England series win,
whilst quietly hoping for an Australian one - and then they get criticized for doing so !!
For the record, I never once doubted an England series win ...
And no it wasn't the ghastly Pimms, Trev ... prefer a decent Hendricks and tonic meself!
I was at Cardiff, Lord's, Edgbaston and 2nd day Nottingham. It helps.
I'm presuming you both were comfy on your couches, tuned in to the TV from whence you
pontificated, criticized and berated.
Trev - switching every three seconds from high praise to derision of a player (pick any English player),
expecting immediate Aussie wickets every other over and when none comes for 30 minutes,
begins to question the bowler's parentage, the captain's sanity, the wicket's tinge, the groundsman's loyalty
and anyone else whom he thinks isn't aiding the cause !!
Heard the word "patience" before?
Monkeh - you just criticize needlessly with your ribald turns of phrases to gain a smirk or a chortle, occasionally
showering limited praise on an England player after first having criticized him (covering your arse on all
eventualities, basically), and man, you really are the classic Aussie apologist ...!
With "supporters" like you two, WhoTF needs critics?!
Savour the moment guys ... be grateful that you've just witnessed a decent England team who've done their homework dismantling an inadequate Aussie team who haven't done theirs.
They will return stronger and better prepared - so for now, why not just savour the moment!

I hope we can all agree that Adam Lyth is one of the worst Ashes winning players we've had. I'm not including Kerrigan as the Ashes were already won at that point.Dello wrote:

Ian Ronaldo Bell in 2005 comes verrrry close.
Apart from one innings of 60+ when under no pressure whatsoever with the team
a zillion runs ahead ... he averaged a mere 7.5 over the other 7 or 8 innings he batted.

Lyth averages 12.28 for the series. Ballance has scored more runs despite being dropped after 2 tests. The only player to average less for England is James Anderson. He is also the only English player to have bowled and not taken any wickets.
There must be thousands of players looking at the above photo and thinking "I couldn't have done any worse than Adam Lyth."
Bell was the first person that came to my mind too but he did better than that.

Bell 2005 Ashes:
5 Tests, 171 runs at average of 17.1. Fifties: 2. Hundreds: 0.
Take the 2 x 50's out and you're left with a 7.5 average

Take out the innings where he scored any runs and you are left with an average of zero.

If you take out all of the scores other than the 50s then he did quite well.Merlin wrote:Bell 2005 Ashes:

As taips has alluded to, it's generally best to look at all scores when working out the average. And if you do that then Lyth has been far worse so far (although he can at least make his figures look respectable if he smashes a big hundred in the upcoming dead rubber, although I'm not holding my breath).

4. Must have been one of the first photos out - of a near-half-team - to judge by the clock.
5. Who took the photo? Wood?

Because you were so totally wrong about the WC it was not unnatural for people to expect you to be totally wrong again.

Fair enough to expect me to be wrong, if my judgement is consistently poor or predictive form is bad, but to label the prediction as a 'woof' is totally illogical.
I thought we would lose, but not as badly as this. ETG was closer to the true margin of loss.

Got us over the line at Trent Bridge and his partnership with KP at the Oval clinched the Ashes. Far more than Lyth.OP Tipping wrote:vilkrang wrote:

Lyth has been retained for the 5th Test.
What a jammy dodger.

Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Hales got 85 yesterday, to signify that he's back in some sort of form. Shame, really. I just don't think Lyth will cut the mustard when he's so tempted outside off. Not the best start to a career, though: NZ and Aus at home. Crying shame that James Chocolate picked a frazzled Trott in the Caribbean.... Maybe he'll fare better in duller conditions, though all his shots seemed to be geared up to using the pace on the ball.
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
If he can't make a score on the Oval road, that'll be him done. Seven Tests - that's as many as Sam Robson got (for better results).
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Yeah, you'd have to hope. What if he does make a score? How long before you persist again after he's failed regularly? It would be best to be more ruthless, as they weren't with Trott, and give someone else a go, to try and bed down for a match before they head off to alien conditions.
