Very lively and a threat when fully fit. Can't stay fit for more than 2 Tests unfortunately. If England manage his workload then he could be the biz. The question is: is someone who has his workload managed really ever the biz? Not sure

Stacks of potential imo if he can stay on the park. There's a bit of Simon Jones about him. I can't see him staying fit and bowling flat out for any decent length of time though. Likely to be a stop-start career.

I can't see much of Simon Jones in him really - only the fact he's injury prone and their run ups are gentle with an explosive effort at the end. Jones had a much stronger body position on release, a much higher action which allowed for the contrast swing. Wood is more whippy.
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Yeah, I liked what I saw. Looked like a bit of a Yasir Arafat/Damien Fleming/Danny Morrison hybrid. Judging from the Aussies racking up 8000 for 10 at Lords, looks like he needs conditions to be effective like most of our attack.

He wasn't bowling at full tilt for the entire match - he was carrying a niggle and shouldn't have played really

I doubt Trev was thinking into that sort of detail in the comparison. Just perhaps the mighty effort in the delivery, and certainly the injury-proneness.
And maybe the potential match-deciding quality, all too rarely delivered as a result of the strained sinews, joints, etc. (and possibly a bit of ill luck thrown in).
In build and technique(s) defo different.

His dead still head position as he enters his delivery stride is also very Jones-ish. And the fact that he's more of a skiddy bowler than a bang it in bowler. Quicker than he looks etc. Haven't seen much from him in regards to reverse swing so far, though.
Does he need to bulk up? Arguably the more muscle a bowler has, the more likely he is to pull/tear said muscles. No doubt he'll go on an ECB strength and conditioning program and be ruined forever.

People rightfully deride the strength and conditioning programme, but what must be remembered is that the likes of Finn and Broad were whispy dobbers before they went on the programme and now they're two bowlers who can ding the 90 bell when they can be arsed...
Not sure it would do much for Wood however, though a year with the England fitness team may help him handle the harshness of being an England international.

Meh, Broad's pace peak was around 2009-10, about a year BEFORE he went on the strength and conditioning program if I remember correctly. Finn was bowling at 90mph+ from his debut back in 2010. A couple of years later the coaches, bio mechanists, and Kevin Shine got hold of him, and he became a nervous wreck who quite literally forgot how to bowl, and was dobbing down half-trackers at 80mph.
I still honestly can't think of an English fast bowler in the last 10 years who hasn't lost pace since his test debut. Just quietly Stokes is 5mph down on pace as well in this series.

Steve Davies the (now) Surrey keeper?
I still think he has an international future.

Not him, obviously. Was there a bowler Davies as well? Maybe Mark?

My memory is not perfect but I believe he was the man mentioned in the ChavScot's Triumvirate of Embryonic Hopefulness. TEH.

England will play safe and select Plunkett for sure.

He took a stack of wickets. Hardly a bomber.

I think Henry is just pissed off that he didn't destroy his career, single-handed.

Just goes to show my gladness that he never rates Northants players. Although he's just given a note to Ben Duckett. Watch him fail now, lardos, watch him fail....
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
He had an amazing FC record, in spite of being an injury prone dobber, IIRC.
Edit - ah, I posted straight up, no quotin', without realising there was another page of dribble I hadn't read yet. Davies the bowler, I was talking about.

I should do these 2 year disappearances more often. I haven't felt this wanted since Rebecca Tomkins agreed to go out with me at Junior school because she wanted my last rolo
Cheers Skully

Nah, not Mark Davies - I remember who it was now. They were all from the U19's of the same year. It was Stuart Broad, Mark Footitt and Tom Smith (of Lancs)
One guy with 300 wickets, another in the test squad after a spate of injuries too. I'm allowed one failure

Well, he was at least Lancs' captain. Until this happened:
