Weak decision. Really poor decision
Well, I'm going to say that on this occasion it's not a bad decision. Nothing but sun is forecast for the next couple of days, and there's no point in sending out a shaky Stokes under grey skies in fading light at this stage.
Call it understandable if you like. It was still a weak and feeble decision
It was strong and manly. Stokes was probably still icing his hand after catching a tracer bullet earlier.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other. And a lot of ducks, shitwads.

I'm warming to the nightwatchman idea actually. We're only 214 ahead, with 6 wickets left. Err on the side of caution, I say. I mean, Stokes could've got one of those rip snorters that the completely not deflated and demoralised Australian attack had been bowling all innings. I'm surprised they sent someone of Wood's calibre in, actually - did they not see Steven Finn? Brave choice. Miraculously, Wood survived the onslaught

Christ, what utter carnage
If I were Australian, i'm not sure which is worse Melbourne 2010 or today.

From my perspective, that's the worst I've seen from an Australian side, I'm including the 47. At least there was some iota of fight on the day
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Just seen Ponting picking apart the Australian batsmen's techniques now - it is frightful showing

But only just!
Top drawer Broadly ... right on the button.
Go Rooooooot.
Well done Bairstow you podgy little ginga.
The Aussies "batting" performance must rank as the worst ever .... ever.
Woeful, devoid of a single brain cell amongst the 11 of them, hailing cabs, casting a fly line ... pathetic.
Long may it continue.
Like I said around the Cardiff test, these Aussie batsmen are clueless in English conditions.
Lord's was and always will be an anomaly - coupled to England's batting inadequacy.
So .... bat till tea tomorrow, post another 250 runs on the board - take a 470 lead, which
would then leave 10 sessions within which to knock them over to regain the urn.

Jonny B's a travesty of a batsman, but I can't help willing him to do well. He's got a good attitude and seems a genuinely nice bloke. But he's got the reactions of a corpse and half as a good a technique.
Don't mind the nighwatchman, to be honest. Bat once, bat long. Stokes, Buttler, Moeen (at 9!) and Broad still waiting to join Root tomorrow, Wood's good for a few lusty blows in the morning.
Jonny: looks for all the world like a valuable short-format batsman (and keeper). I keep hoping it's nerves, and he will "click" ... but even though he's taken a big step up in this innings, it's hard to be convinced.
I agree about the NW issue for the last 11 mins. Really not important - angels on a pinhead - the crucial thing is England try to press on remorselessly tomorrow, to turn a short-head advantage into a mentally disintegrating lead.
Why did Aus drop the 5th bowler? Gordon in Portsmouth, wherever you are: an object example of how inflexible principles are pants. And mince too.

Great comic opera this afternoon when Warne and Beefy tried chatting to Border
when the cameras picked out a very sullen looking AB in his yellow attire and green
cap seated amongst a few hundred similarly attired men and women.
AB took a few minutes to re-tune his ear piece, with the help of several attention seekers
around him, before giving a thumbs down to Warnes question : "What d'you think of it so far AB?"
The lips only twitched a 2 second smile .... the sullen look reappeared ....then his ear piece fell out !!!
AB - Truly one of the gutsy greats.
Happy ( 27 July ) 60th birthday Allan Border.

Absolutely nothing wrong with having a night-watchman.... at any time in any test match.
With 2 or 3 overs to go to COP, WTF expose the next recognised batsman to a 12 or 18 ball barrage
with the oppos tails back up?
Wood did his job perfectly well this evening by seeing off the last over of the day rejecting runs when they were on offer.

No, that was a drunken phone ting. The CM thing on the Android isn't the best, does the last word on backspace perpetually

Well Warne did keep blathering on about it being Border's 60th birthday, wishing him a happy bidet today etc etc
But I thought I'd look it up on Wiki - and sure enough, as you so succinctly point out, yep, it was a tad belated!

You'd have to think this sounds Clarke's death knell. His own poor form not whithstanding, as captain he has to take responsibility.
Re: England v Australia, 4th Test, Trent Bridge, 06-10 August 2015
Yeah it's only a small thing regarding the nighwatchman, admittedly

Who is it in the Aussie dressing room that decides the make-up of the team ?
Leaving out a bowler (who can bat) and going in with just the 3 quicks and a spinner was ridiculous.
Does Clarke have a say in selection?
He even gave Warner 3 overs just to spell his quicks - yet only bowled Lyon for 9 overs ... strange.

Well talk about an inept, pea hearted performance from the over paid prima donas.
WTF is the Sozzie slug coaching them?
As for the selection of Shaun Marsh ahead of Mitch Marsh, the only possible explanation can be the selection panel were on the piss with Faulkner.
Sadly a easy home Summer coming up (even for these pea heartz), will just Plaster over the cracks.

A similar performance by Aust on Boxing Day 2010 was signalled the end of Punter's captaincy.
