India's batting is due to fail. England favourites i reckon. England's top three will score at over a run a ball just to rub it in everyone's faces.

I wonder why England haven't sucked this time around. 

India on the other hand are a class unit and in my book they were the favorites to win the title even before a ball was bowled in the tournament.

Before the recent series with New Zealand, they hadn't lost a home ODI series since 2009.

ODIs, it's sometimes hard to make out when they're winning or losing.

We've been good at nicking series whilst riddled with ineptitude and, in some regards, a lack of professionalism. This, however, still puts us poles apart from Pakistan, who just stop short of being an absolute sham.

England have been helped by the weather. The batting is stodgy and shotless. The attack is suited to dobbery conditions. 

When it was dry and the pitch was true against Sri Lanka, the batting couldn't dominate and the bowlers got carted.

Yeah, on a pitch where 250-ish is par we're a pretty good side. Where closer to 300 is required we're the equivalent of a Skoda in an F1 race.

The shared trophy still looks favourite at this point in time. Which India will be disappointed with... class of the field by a distance on the evidence so far. How long ago was it when Indian cricket, at national team level at least, was seemingly going head first down the crapper at some speed? The batting old guard gone or going, usual mediocre seam attack and barely even a spinner of note. Suddenly they have a decent young side in all formats, though still wouldn't back them to win too many away Tests.

England must have some sort of a chance, if nothing else on the basis that being clear underdogs suits them. 

They have from the point of view of expectations nowt to lose.

Whereas Top Dog = disaster alley for the Poms, it seems.

If it isn't, our FTBs are going to be all over this, moustaches twirling, smirks unfurling.

9.05 am Not good news. It's drizzling and the heavy duty covers are on, protecting the pitch and the square. The rain is not heavy at the moment but the precautions in place indicate more is expected.

I hope they're sensible in terms of allowing cricket to be played whenever possible to try and get a result. When I've been to Edgbaston they've always been terrible at getting a game on - covering systems that are like setting up an Antarctic expedition, an hour to dismantle everything when it stops raining, then a bit of fine drizzle and they put it all back on again. I predict a no result with a fair bit of time wasted in playable conditions!
