South Africa v Pakistan, 2nd Test, Cape Town, 3-7 January, 2019
Will this one make Day 4?
What's the water supply level these days in Cape Town?

Didn't realise that both captains Faf and Sarfraz Ahmed bagged pairs in Centurion which is the first time this has ever happened in tests.
It is expected that Philander will return and SA will play four quicks in CT.

Don't see the point of 4 quicks. If it's a green track 3 should do the job. If it's not we will need a spinner. The only other option is to drop a batsman

Will be interesting to see if Olivier is retained given that Philander is certain to play and they're loath to drop Maharaj.

Why would they want to drop Maharaj?

Not saying they would need to, but given Olivier's performance he'd be unlucky to miss out. They won't be dropping Rabada or Steyn to accommodate Vern, so it's either Maharaj or a batsman.

Stain, Verny, Ramada Hotel and Lawrence - that's some attack.
With Aus at no. 5 or 6 in the World, it looks like the SAffers at home may be the Bannie top 7's biggest test these days.
[awaits indignant response from our English comrades]

It's either Olivier or De Bruyn. The team protocol is that if you replace an injured player you drop out when he is fit. Reference Abbott or De Lange. Both got dropped after taking michelles. IMHO it would be a mistake to weaken the batting so Olivier it is.

Although is Philander just as much an all-rounder as what De Bruyn offers?
BTW, Faf has confirmed that Olivier will play.

177 is not a great score but it's good the way ball can rule bat in SA. Olivier gets four, Steyn bags three, Vernon one, while Kagiso has to be satisfied with two. One fifty in the wacky innings.

Shafiq and Azhar Ali have been very poor. A thing which would've been noted but I missed about the first test is that both captains got pairs. First time in tests.
Rashid Latif has a good YouTube blog. Rameez, as well, to a lesser extent. Speak a lot more sense when they have some time to think.

Markram returned to form somewhat but SA look set to put this game to bed by acquiring a lead big enough to blunt any chance the Paks have of piling up a formidable target for the fourth innings.

So basically series dead and buried in 5 days, with Wanderers to come.

All batsmen into double figures on a tricky track. Great effort
