That'll probably change. It's only recently they've been allowed to compete in all field events.

Women’s hammer and pole vault were introduced in 2000 (though surprisingly, the most recent addition was a track event, the steeplechase, as recently as 2008).

I think the main reason for not switching over for the multi-event competition is because it would force a generation of athletes to completely change the range of events they do, so probably cut off a lot of careers in their prime if they weren’t good at the new ones.

Yeah but the ones good at the new ones might have been crap at the old ones or vice versa.
