Would say the defeat to Sri Lanka should've put him under more pressure. In case of such a mismatch as this series, can't really blame the captain.

Consecutive innings losses for the Yarps.

That hasn't happened since Jan & Feb 1936, when Aus dusted them for 3 consecutive innings defeats IN SAf, when Grimmett and O'Reilly tore them a new arsehole.

The Bangles would put up greater effort.

Interesting as ever to see or more to the point not seeing Nigel.

Not sure they have too many other options either... is there a radical choice waiting in the wings like Smith back in the day?

Shame the number 12 failed to score again. Zero out of two innings so far. Anyway, if number 11 is jack, is number 12 “queen”? Maybe one day we will see two concussion subs in an innings and a number 13 “king” will walk out to bat?

Talking of captains, how can a spud like Temba Bavuma be made vice-captain?

Would he consistently get a gig in any other team?

Opener: "I'm struggling here. Time to head butt a short one and get a sub on".

No. 4: "I'm struggling here. Time to head butt a short one and get a sub on".

No. 7: "I'm struggling here. Time to head butt a short one and get a sub on".

Will future touring squads have built-in subs??  Is this likely to become the pinching hitting equivalent in cricket?

Here in Aus we have seen the HIA (Head Injury Assessment) rule abused in Rugby League (e.g. players pull a hammy but feign a head injury to get a free replacement i.e. no loss of interchanges). Maybe it'll happen in cricket too.

I've been against the sub rule from the outset.  Playing with ten men and a traditional 12th man might teach people to duck.  The head butting analogy isn't far off skulls.  The trust they put in helmets, esp after Hughes, says volumes about their mental acuity.

Ireland or Afghanistan perhaps? Lilliput?

Seems he’s the heir apparent to Faf, anyway, which shows where they’re at right now. OK, let’s watch us go and lose there now...

Average is around Bog Marsh and far superior to Mitch's and miles ahead of The Brain's.

Is Taips sulking? 3-0 vs SA is satisfying. But I stopped cricket almost fully since that 40-Disaster in England / Aus that saw Sehwag/Laxman/Dravid bow out. Saw the return Aus whitewash home bit. No tests since then. No ODIs since WC 2011 Final win missed WC 2015 though we made finals and last one too fopr most.

Missed this 3-0 WW too. I just see occasional score card and thats that. I have moved past Cricket don't miss it anymore. Work and Political ramblings on Social Media take more time. Is that bad?

Back in my prime debate days here would have rubbed it in no end Nigel. So for now can only ask how did the drubbing feel?

Average is around Bog Marsh and far superior to Mitch's and miles ahead of The Brain's.

Averages, for clarification and perspective:

Shaun Marsh 34.31

(3 average points, if not actual daylight)

Tim Paine 31.45 and
Temba Bavuma 31.24 (so, if TB is not quite comparable to Shaun Marsh, he is comparable to our keeper, one consistently lambasted by those 'in the know' as a non-batsman)

(daylight)

Mitch Marsh 25.20 (does bowl a bit)

(several days of daylight)

Theunis de Bruyn 19.45 (with the obvious concession that it is still early days)

Fair point, though the Marshes do get dropped. The Marshes are also the bane of most of the Aussie cricketing public.

An average of 30 is perhaps easier to achieve when you bat down the order and/or have another string to your bow... for example, is Chris Woakes a better pure batsman than some of the openers we’ve tried? Probably not, but you can often cash in with no pressure at number 7 or 8, and have your bowling (or in some cases keeping) to fall back on.
