The Snoozonian batting that was like the great wall of Westeros to our bowlers, has crumbled like the Labour Red Wall against the Aussies. Tells you a lot really, pink ball or not.

They played out a nice draw thirty years ago at this ground.

Sort of get this. I have gone to a few womens tournaments as well as blokes. I learn more from the women than the blokes who hit their drives absurd distances. Love being there and watching players around the green.

Pretty feeble effort by Aus v the lionhearted Wagner and Southee in the last session.

Yes, they were pretty gutsy in the conditions, but the Aussies surrendered pretty meekly.
Gosh Smith is a weird batsman to watch.

I really enjoyed the last session.
Absolute kudos to Wagner ("Ring/" or "Cycle") and Southee. I thought both bowled very well and with great intelligence. They were well supported by BigMan. Pity Santner was not up to it.
Oz already has plenty on the board so it does not really matter, but I agree it was a pretty limp effort from Oz.
Warner was again found out by decent bowlers on a pitch as opposed to an autobahn. Burns never looked in but battled away within his limitations while Lasagna again looked the goods. Thought the rest was a predictable procession. Head's dismissal was no surprise and despite his talent he seems to lack the temperament and application for Test cricket.
The media love Paine and his untidyness as a keeper and mediocrity as a number 7 are swept under the carpet. Nice bloke and all, I hope he pulls the pin after this series. His captaincy skills rest more in media management than tactical acumen.
As a skipper Williamson made only one error and that was in losing the toss. His field settings showed great acumen and imagination. They have been in the field for close to 7 of the 9 sessions and in near intolerable conditions. He helped keep his fieldsmen upbeat and focussed.
The toss is a wonderful part of cricket but when home teams win it, the level of home ground advantage is magnified.

Aus really need to eek out another session and a half of batting to minimise the heat stress on Koo and 2nd.
Can't see it. We will be bowling in the first session with a lead of around 450.

Agree, Paine is treated with extreme leniency by an often merciless press.

Two days in the field, maybe a day or a day and a bit. Good thing Melbourne's ten days away.

40C + salmonella - a nice day out!!
Decent "morning" for Aus. Pushed the lead past 460 and got the prize scalp of Kane Williamson.
