Another quiz - this time nowhere near so long(-winded), intricate/convoluted or with as much research into it as the previous quiz (re: 1920-21 Ashes)

The questions this time centre mainly on:

Which players in each of the images can you identify?

There will be a few (not so many) other questions along the way, if this or that particular photo suggests an extra question.

And I may add a final question at the end - perhaps even two. (Haven't decided yet.)

This time I won't claim to guarantee I know for sure every single player illustrated - almost everyone, I think, but there are a few uncertainties.

Especially in the "fuzzier" images (rest assured I would have used a clearer, sharper image if I'd found one), and especially if seen from the back, it can be difficult to make this or that player out with no shadow of doubt.

But then, as there are no prizes available, I won't apologise too much for the fact I'm not 100% sure of every single player.

It's perhaps no bad thing after all if the quiz setter is not sitting up on high, looking down on poor mortal quizzers like some omniscient (or arrogant) deity -no bad thing  that is, provided there are no prizes to be won. It also puts you more in charge, when tackling the quiz - if you have better knowledge of this or that player than me, maybe you can spot one for sure that I'm a bit uncertain of.

Anyway, see how you get on.

Skully: interested as you are in archive stuff like this, & an ace at tracking data and also tracing identities, a little plea that you don't eat them all up at one sitting (can cause indigestion Wink )

Remember, again - unless otherwise stated, each question is simply:

Who are the players in these pictures?

And PLEASE USE THE "SPOILER COWL" - because others may wish to see the questions before they see your answers!

For clarity, the SPOILER is this icon (circled),which you can find  above the posting box (IIRC, you won't see it in the "quick answer" option):

* - note: the "eccentric" question numbering should make more sense by the time you get to the end of the quiz.

I should probably point out at this point what will anyway become obvious in the course of the quiz. Some players will reappear a few times!

01-04
(note: Bizarre numbering of this question, because the player becomes "operative" at 04. If that seems mumbo-jumbo at this point, it should make sense later. Press on!)

The extra question is: Why is this guy flying on his own?

"NOT03"
(The question about that numbering will comes at the very end of the quiz.)

"Series L". (Not so long as the previous.) 03not10

(btw: This is a prime example of where I could only guess who might be at slip. 20 bonus points if you can say with certainty who it is - as opposed to, like me, surmising who a) it might look like from what physique we can see, and b) it might most likely be, fielding at that specialist position!)

End of picture show.

Two extra questions to finish up:

+1:
I "numbered" one of the questions above "NOT03". ~ Can you explain what I was getting at?

+2:
All the images & questions are arranged (as far as I could tell) in chronological order. Even if e.g. 06a, for reasons explained above, has to use a set of images taken from a different match.

But what's with the "06a", "07b", etc? Can you explain the bizarre numbering system employed above?

Oh, I should have added:

Sources

David Frith's two huge tomes again:

"Pageant of Cricket" and the other one used for the other (1920-21) quiz.

Also: Wisden Illustrated History of Cricket, two autobiographies, ESPN cricinfo, youtube (stills captured from film) & (for one pic) eBay auctions.

Great memories from my first series followed on TV.

Re 1a - incorrectly judged by an overzealous policeman. I've sent you something privately.

"Not 03" led to a very different 01! and there is a connection with 1a.

Byron was almost too S-S-Su-sexy for his shirt in that fence picture. Wonder where the bloke in the terry-towelling hat is these days.

I'm going to leave the rest for others for now. Mainly skully I suspect.
