Re: "Series L". (Not so long as the previous.)
Two extra questions to finish up:
+1:
I "numbered" one of the questions above "NOT03". ~ Can you explain what I was getting at?
+2:
All the images & questions are arranged (as far as I could tell) in chronological order. Even if e.g. 06a, for reasons explained above, has to use a set of images taken from a different match.
But what's with the "06a", "07b", etc? Can you explain the bizarre numbering system employed above?
- Spoiler:
- These are all from the 1970/1 Ashes series. The numbers are references to the Tests in that series. "Not 3" was the MCG Test which was abandoned without a ball being bowled but because they tossed it counted as a Test in the series (hence a 7 test series, but not a Test for the career matches totals.
Is the pic from NOT3 actually from the ODI #1 that was scheduled instead?

- Spoiler:
- Froggy Thomson bowling. Boycott at runner. I assume Luckhurst on strike. Was this the first ball of the 70/1 Ashes series that was called a no ball even though Thomson had delivered the ball before his front foot landed.

- SPOILER:
01 - 04 RGDW (might just have been RGW at that stage, not sure) arrives alone from Surrey/Warwickshire to replace the Derbyshire tearaway Alan Ward, who was injured, and his career was ruined. Ward did play one more test, IIRC, but he ran into Zaheer Abbas and 274 reasons to give up forever. Willis of course went on to a great career playing and (some would say) an even more remarkable career commentating.

Also, is the 'L' a salute to Horatio?

- Spoiler:
- Alan Froggy Thomson bowling a series opening no-ball (T1 Brisbane 1970-71) to Brian Luckhurst with Boycott the non-striker.

- Spoiler:
- Underwood to Stackpole (presumably on his way to 207) T1 at the Gabba in 1970-71. Was it a no ball from Underwood that saved Stacky from dismissal? The keeper is APE Knott.

Re: "Series L". (Not so long as the previous.)
I'll be back on this tomorrow, all being well.
Keep posting answers, if you feel inclined.
I might open a separate thread for solutions, again. It makes a neater finish than trying to field at least three people's answers individually - which however is pleasing to see, do post on - and especially if solutions and new answers get mixed in together, as tends usually to happen!

Classic GSC backfoot cover drive. Even in his first test.

(The question about that numbering will comes at the very end of the quiz.)
(btw: This is a prime example of where I could only guess who might be at slip. 20 bonus points if you can say with certainty who it is - as opposed to, like me, surmising who a) it might look like from what physique we can see, and b) it might most likely be, fielding at that specialist position!)
- Spoiler:
- A very similar picture to 02b.
Is this Peter Lever b McKenzie 2nd Test Perth 1970-71? If so, it's John Snow at the other end (doesn't look like him - more like Ken Shuttleworth). Marsh is the keeper and pretty sure it's Stackpole at slip.

Re: "Series L". (Not so long as the previous.)
- Spoiler:
- Stackpole c Lever b Snow 2nd innings 4th Test SCG 1970-71. 2nd slip is Dolly, 1st is Fletcher, keeper is Knott. Aus non-striker is Lawry who carried his bat.
KD Walters c Knott b Lever 2nd innings 4th Test SCG 1970-71. Dolly and Fletcher slips, Knott keeper, and maybe Underwood at short midwicket. Lawry is non-striker.

Re: "Series L". (Not so long as the previous.)
- Spoiler:
- That's Dennis Lillee, who made his debut in the 6th Test at Adelaide 1970-71 and took 5-84 in his first Test innings.
You put the question here because it was the 6th Test (06a) after T3 was abandoned without a ball bowled but declared a Test because the captains had tossed.
