Re: Australia v England, 2nd Test (D/N), Adelaide, 16-20 December, 2021
Well, that was entertaining. Koo and Ebba put the Poms to the sword with a rapid fire 58 run stand, then Koo and JRich added 25 in just 9 balls before the declaration came on the latter's dismissal. Koo finished on 39* and now averages 74 in the series.
9-473(d) is a good total. And now England have to face the pink ball in twilight.

And Neezer says bah, humbug to Hameed.
I’ll say it again, I don’t know why we bother with specialist openers. I won’t risk another lardy tirade by talking about pinch-hitters/blockers again, but maybe just pick our best XI (whatever that might be) and see who puts their hand up to face the new ball.

Root might as well open anyway, given he usually walks out at fuq all for 2.

Some discussion on another medium tonight about Aus being better to use Michael Neser as opener rather than Marcus Harris.

'Duck' like Wayne copped (coz he looked like one apparently*), might woof him into never scoring one

Anyway was thinking we had best part of a session to bat there, instead only 8 or so overs. Still a chance for them to finish the game tomorrow if they want to, unless Captain COARIAB and AC can hold them up again as per Brisbane.

I assume in the long history of Test Cricket lightning has stopped play before.

Increasing talk that Burns will be in the last chance saloon in the second innings. The options to replace him are one-innings wonder Crawley and jack of all trades Bairstow… surely they won’t pick Jonny to open in a Test though, so presumably if he got the nod then either Root or Malan would open.
Burns was also seen as one of the few plausible captaincy candidates given his county experience. So if he’s out of the side, and assuming Root steps aside after a heavy series defeat, I guess we’re down to Stokes and Buttler as realistic options. And I doubt they’d want to burden Stokes with it for the long term given recent issues.

Re: Australia v England, 2nd Test (D/N), Adelaide, 16-20 December, 2021
The lightning prevented further humiliation for england.
Its difficult for any side to go into a 5 test series in OZ without some proper matches
beforehand and England looked ragged in the field throughout and tired and fed up by
the end. The bowlers bowled too short too often, more catches went down, they lack
a specialist offspinner and their openers arnt up to it. Hameeds dismissal was very
soft. Easy stuff for oz, just a question of when they will win.

I’d have thought “AC” Malan would have dealt with an electrical storm pretty well…

Dello wrote:Anyone remember when England got pumped 4 years ago in Australia and came up with a long-term plan that they were going to develop an arsenal of 90mph bowlers, a top class spinner, and a doughty batting line up that could dig in for days at a time?
Fast forward to today: an attack of right arm medium pacers, no spinner, and a one man batting line up surrounded by wilting cabbages.
I mean, it wasn't like I was expecting anything different, but all the same: it takes a special effort to somehow become even worse.
Yeah, but, comedy value ...
Happy Christmas Dellers! Any chance of an advent calendar?

Alex C couldn't go about his work any less like the dreaded Mariah, so it would be a good follow of the Slasher McKay precedent - in the same way Dave Warner would have the choice of 'Lofty' or 'Mumbles'

I humbly agree with this sentiment. The way she destroys songs with her up and down and all around screeching vocal variations annoys the shit out of me. Just sing the song, bitch!!!!

‘There’s a horrible noise coming from the front end of my car’
‘Have you tried removing the Mariah Carey cassette from the player?”
Hence Mariah for Alex, Rowdy (RIP), should have been ‘whispers’ for Matthew Wade
