Cam Smith doubles 1 and doubles 18 but carves -8 out of the sixteen holes in between for -4 and the equal clubhouse lead, shared with some guy called Scheffler who I had nevererdof but it turns out he's current world #1 . Four other blokes including past winner Danny Willetts a shot behind, three of them still out there.

Tiger -1, in the top 10, swing looks great, a few moments of genius, stamina the obvious issue come the weekend but SFSG

Adam Scott OK but not much more. Happy to see De Shambles and Reed a long way back in the pack.

End R1: Sung Jae Inn (who may or may not be related to ex-Collingwood occasional basketballer 'Phil', Red) one ahead of Smith, with Shuffles, Dustin J, Willett & Jakob Neimann another shot back.

Shuffles has a big lead after 2 rounds - the remaining 52 players are within 7 strokes of each other.

And Shuffles wins, maybe appropriately double-bogeying hole 72.

(Is there any serious competition to the US Masters for the title 'Best-televised sporting event on the planet?' Rhetorical question....)

Scheffler's current form is the closest anyone has come to peak Tiger since that Rory run in 2014. 4 wins in 6 starts with a major and a WGC (got shafted in the most lopsided Players in a long time). DJ in 2017 would've probably been there if not for his silly injury - 3 straight wins including 2 WGCs.

As an aside, Pelley should go down as the worst ET top honcho.

Still, it's hard to imagine anyone ever exceeding Tiger 2000-2001. He was a true force of nature then.

Yeah, I don't see that being beaten either or even coming close. Would require a serious drug addled roidbunny (apart from Bryson) to get there.

More just that Scheffler's on a supreme streak this past month and a half. I guess he'll slow down after this win.

I don’t follow the sport that closely but the Yanks just seem to produce a new star every year (Spieth, Koepka, DeChambeau, Morikawa, Scheffler…) who is quickly surpassed by the next one. Makes for an unbeatable Ryder Cup team though, when we just have a bunch of 40-somethings with little left in the tank bar past glories.
