Qualification coming to a nice head with Jaidee four strokes off Scott Hend in Thailand. He'll get into the Masters with a win. Siem on course for a spot with a four stroke lead in Morocco.

Wiratchant will make his second major appearance.

My brother (yes, that one) played in an amateur 4-man team golf tournament in Melbourne last year. Every team got tickets with the prize being a 3 week trip to the States including all 4 days of the Masters, plus a round on the famous Augusta 18. The higher you placed, the more tickets you got, working down to last place, who got one ticket.

Yeah, you know where this is going. My brother's team played like busted arses, finished last and scored the one solitary ticket, which promptly came out of the barrel. The qunt and his 3 mates fly out tomorrow morning. I wished him well via text, telling him to replace those expensive divots.

Fark me - he's playing Augusta?

I suppose that's positive karma for having a Tory qunt for a brother all your life.

Bloody hell that's brilliant.

Farking IGU never has nearly as enticing a tournament. Maybe Indian Skully might pass on some tickets to play there.

Tiger must be favourite. McIlroy will be lucky to make the cut. Seems to have gone off the rails a bit since his multi-million dollar Nike deal.

What's happened to Ogilvy? Don't all Major Champions in the last 10 years automatically qualify?

No. It qualifies them for the US Tour only. Ogilvy missed last year as well as his ranking is outside the Top 50.

And past Masters Champions are qualified for life? Or at least for a few years (I think). Woosie was playing at Augusta when he was well past it. Same with Nicklaus.

Five years exemption for major winners, 3 years for Players champions and lifetime for past Masters champions.

The Masters may have more 'aura' surrounding it than any other Major, but in reality it's the weakest out of the lot.

The field is artificially small and padded out with old timers who are well past it.

Last year Ernie Els came ninth in the US Open and won the British Open. He couldn't even get a gig at the Masters. But I guess the good old boys like keeping everything about their club "exclusive".

It does seem strange that the "majors" aren't the pinnacle. The Players is the strongest event offering the greatest prizemoney.

It's also the case for the Cadillac championship AFAIK and maybe even another WGC or two.

Aye, Augusta National does seem to compromise the quality to keep its exclusivity. Shame considering there are some very good players who're not quite the cream and not a well past it player who won the Masters (seem to remember Woosnam almost limping along in his last appearance). As much about the course and the image, for want of a better word, as about the tournament. Something that's evident in the coverage here and in SE Asia (with two cabbage headed golf presenters in Vijay Amritraj and Alan Wilkins).

So the glorified practice completed and first couple of groups are out. Thought Woosnam said he'd never play after getting well and truly f*cked a couple of years ago.

Nice to have Trevor Immelman in decent form, when was his last good tournament since his wrist injury? Bad times for Thaworn.

watched some of it this morning but with the sound off...US golf commentators are simply seppo versions of Nicholas..the 4 Oz players all had good days...espesh the Unleash the Leish

Rory struck the ball really well but his short game was dire..

Fat Phil whimpered about the greens being too soft...the broadcasters kept following that classic good ole boy around...tho he played poorly...as a person fat phil is the closest I have seen to resembling a Queenslander...he sweats banjos

Have always wanted to go to the Masters...
